Euphoria Has Gripped the Markets

by Dr. Steve Sjuggerud

“The only reason to be bearish is… there is no reason to be bearish.”

That euphoric and reckless mentality is what will propel the Melt Up to its final peak. But it’s also a warning sign we want to be aware of.

These are not normal times. But the craziness gives us an opportunity to profit. You must take advantage of it while you can.

Too many investors are focused on the Fed’s ‘willingness to drive up asset prices’ instead of ‘valuation criteria’ in the stock market, warns Citigroup

By Christine Idzelis

Are investors trying to ‘normalize’ Fed intervention?

They pointed to the “seeming disconnect between fundamentals and share prices created by excess liquidity looking for a home.”

“Large cap tech with resilient balance sheets became the new area for protection” in the downturn induced by the pandemic, as opposed to traditional defensive sectors beyond consumer staples such as toilet paper and cleaners.

Nervous S&P 500 traders bet the market’s best days are behind it

by Lu Wang

From options trading to stock preferences to the direction of retail money flows, signs of trepidation are budding in a market where US$27 trillion has been added to equity values in a little over a year.

Market that has gone nine months without a 5% pullback.

“Investors are nervously long”.

“They see further equity upside to be limited.”

The proportion of newsletter writers classified in Investors Intelligence’s weekly survey as being in the camp calling for a market correction rose to 31% at the end of July, near the highest level since early 2020.

You should be concerned when this stock market indicator gets as high as it is now

By Michael Sincere

Relative Strength Indicator is one of the stock market’s key measures of overbought and oversold conditions

When RSI rises to 70 and above

The RSI weekly chart gives a more reliable and accurate signal.

RSI must be 70 or higher and remain above that level to generate an overbought signal. This is a clue that SPX (or another index or stock) is overbought. Hint: Sometimes indexes or stocks will reverse before reaching 70.

As every technician knows, just because a stock or index is overbought doesn’t mean it will reverse immediately. Securities can remain overbought for long time periods before reversing.

Do not use RSI to time when the market may reverse. Instead, use it as a guide.

Wall Street most bullish in 20 years

About 56 percent of all recommendations on S&P 500 firms are listed as buys, the most since 2002.

In Europe, about 52 percent of recommendations on Stoxx 600 firms are buy or equivalent, a 10-year high.

In Asia, that number jumps to 75 percent, the highest proportion since at least 2010.

US profit growth of 90 percent was 17 percentage points better than expected, while a 71 percent rise in Europe surprised positively by 16 percentage points.

No ‘strong bearish sentiment’ in markets: Behavioral finance expert

by Thomas Hum

60% of respondents now anticipate global equity markets this year will enter a bearish state where security prices fall at least 20%. This is up from just 30% of respondents.

Inexperienced investors lacking experience in downturns are often “spooked” and end up waiting too long to buy in.

Some experts believe that investors should be patient rather than early.

Investor Pessimism Is Growing, According to the Animal Spirits Index. Inflation Could Make Things Worse.

Animal Spirits Are Waning

The Animal Spirits Index (ASI) slid deeper into negative territory in March, falling to -0.24 from -0.22 in February.

On a basic level, an ASI value above zero indicates optimism, while a value below zero suggests pessimism.

Today’s A Great Time to Be Invested in the Market

by Sean Michael Cummings

A dropping ASI is a bullish signal. It tells us it’s a great time to be invested… because the turnaround may be just around the corner.
