DJ China Hog Prices Rebound, State Stockpiling Supports -NDRC
BEIJING--China's hog prices rose this month after four months of consecutive price declines, supported by the government's stockpiling of frozen pork for reserves, the National Development and Reform Commission said.
As of June 13, the average nationwide price was 14.08 yuan ($2.23) a kilogram, up 1% from a week earlier, the country's top economic planner said in a statement on its website Monday.
The NDRC bought frozen pork in two batches for reserves, but didn't provide details on the volume.
It suggested that producers appropriately reduce sow numbers to avoid oversupply.
China began stockpiling pork in mid-April, after returns from hog production--which are measured by the hog-to-corn price ratio--fell below the break-even level of 6.
