Hefty boost for China home sales

Sales of new homes in the mainland jumped by 55.7 percent month-on-month in March.

Tier-one cities - including Beijing and Shanghai - rose the fastest, jumping 73 percent last month. Sales in tier two and tier three cities grew 54.7 percent and 28.6 percent, respectively.

Prices of new homes in 100 Chinese cities rose at the fastest pace in nine months in March, a separate survey by the researcher showed.

China is said to be working on a new basket of measures to support the property market after existing policies failed to sustain a rebound in the ailing sector.

Regulators are considering reducing the down payment in some non-core neighborhoods of major cities, lowering agent commissions on transactions and further relaxing restrictions for residential purchases.

News of the potential measures buoyed hopes that Beijing will roll out policy stimulus to reinvigorate a faltering economic recovery.
