This ETF is Set to Keep Outperforming

by Michael A. Robinson

A spin-off gives management and shareholders more transparency into operations and stops management from having to weigh the interests of the subsidiary against the interests of the larger company.

That makes for a more competitive, lean, and focused business. Not to mention higher returns for shareholders.

I believe the best way to profit from spin-offs as they happen is the Invesco S&P Spin-Off ETF (CSD).

This fund has just one goal: invest in companies that have been spun off within the past four years.

It takes all the hassle out of tracking when spin-offs will happen, how to buy them, and what the terms will be.

A Biden Victory And Split Congress Is Best For Stocks, But Here’s What Would Kill Markets After Election Night

by Sergei Klebnikov

Scenario 1: Status Quo; Markets will likely rally 3% to 5% on “no new news,”
Scenario 2: Blue Wave; Initial sell-off of between 2% to 5%
Scenario 3: Biden Wins But Republicans Hold The Senate; Stocks could rally between 4% and 5%
Scenario 4: Delayed Election Results; It will be bad for the market

Here Are Some Techniques To Help You Beat The Market

by Louis Stevens

Some of the mental fertilizer, so to speak, by which I believe one can create the fertile ground for outperformance is the following:
1. Independence of thought or a contrarian mindset
2. Confidence
3. Tenacity
4. Resilience
5. The ability to do "nothing"

Why Investors Chronically Underperform The Market
1. Inability to do nothing (attempting to sell before a crash/market timing)
2. Investing in the most obvious stocks (weighting a portfolio heaviest in Apple (AAPL) for example)
3. Scarcity mentality (as opposed to an abundance mentality)

Portfolio Success

By Eric Fry

Based on decades of stock market history, we know a few key details about what produces investment success over time:-
1. Fast-growing companies tend to produce better investment results than slow-growing ones.
2. Lowly valued companies tend to produce better investment results than richly valued ones.
3. Cash-rich companies tend to produce better investment results than heavily indebted ones.
4. Companies that generate positive cash flow tend to produce better investment results than companies that generate negative cash flow.
5. Companies that possess a formidable "moat," as Warren Buffett calls it, tend to produce better investment results than companies without any special competitive advantage.

So, when we examine the stocks in our portfolios, we should favor those that possess one or more of these winning traits.

Beware of letting fear guide investment decisions

by Shamik Dhar

In our first, most likely scenario this is largely because the disease remains under control until a vaccine appears in 2021 and widespread lockdowns are avoided.

In this scenario the disease continues to fall away – both because of changed behaviour (social distancing, hygiene) and falling potency, what this would mean for the global economy is that it could hope to reach pre-crisis levels by mid-2021.

We have given this scenario a 40% probability. On its own it is slightly odds against, but taken together with our ‘inflation’ scenario, our two strong recovery scenarios add up to a 60% probability – more likely than not.

Finally, prospects for a good economic recovery have risen and we continue to favour risk-on positioning in portfolios, while recognizing that some short-term pullbacks are likely.
