It is not the first time that Ng had taken back his words. In 2003 SARS period, some parents were quiring MOE if schools need to shut down to contain the SARS & he said we didn't need to be so "kan cheong " (my own expression of his explanation), then in the next day or 2, MOE announced to shut down the school when the SARS spread was getting serious.

Think at that time, he was still the 2nd man at MOE.My friend always remind me of this incident as he was one of the "Kiasi" parents who did not send his kids to school during that period, before the school shutdown.

Actually seeing his sour face with our PM on headlines is quite an amusing sight. I can imagine what is going on inside his mind

i think too many parents "invested" too much $$ in Chinese tuition hence now super buay song....got Right Issue to dliute their share......

I think we should remove 40% from Mother Tongue and put it into Bahasa for Chinese or Indian students....vice versa for Malay....personally I feel Bahasa is important for Singapore.

My proposal is ....

Hidden Content:
Let the students choose :
- best 3 as main subjects (with higher weightage) and the last one (with lower weightage).

We don't have to argue why subject XYZ is important.

Students who happen to be weak in one single subject are not marginalise (and may still qualify for some good schools)

The best-of-the-best-of-the-best-of-the-best students will still not be affected by such trivial changes... as the best-of-the-best-of-the-best-of-the-best schools will still take in the best-of-the-best-of-the-best students.

My proposal allows damage to be reduce if the student happen to be weak in one subject.

What it does not solve is to artificially allow the best-of-the-best to become the best-of-the-best-of-the-best.

What do you think?
1. Always wait for the setup. NO SETUP; NO TRADE

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

I second that ;)

Add a slight tweak since I think both English and Math are crucial.

English + Math + 1 subject (be it Chinese or Science).

Great ideas! How to translate ideas in forum to the mainstream? This idea should be seriously considered. ;)

Ran into an uni friend whose son is also in Primary 1, though in one of the top Primary schools in Singapore.

This friend shifted house, took up a big loan to buy a condo and had to endure balloting just to get his son into the top school in the west.

Asked how his son is enjoying school. He complained that teachers are going too fast thro' the syllabus and his son cannot cope, hence he had to send his son for tuition classes. His son always complain of headaches and/or stomachache every morning and did not want to go to school.

This is tough... :(
