Total = 11.5 hrs per day (not including meal times) * 5 days = 57.5 hrs on weekdays. prob round down to 55 hours (as sometimes i knock off before 11pm)

Ocassionally have to work on weekends.

does anyone also work long hours out there? or still working such hours???

Here's my schedule when I was in charge of Asia Pacific manufacturing technology back when I was in corporate.

Start work at 8am till 11am. Lunch for 1/2hr, back to work from 1130 to 5pm.

Reach home at 6pm to play with the baby back then till 9pm. Log in at 9pm to work till 11pm before turning off the lights. Total = 10.5hrs.

Weekends = Work from home for about 5-6 hrs total on Sat/Sun. So total hrs spent is around 60hrs a week. This does not include the traveling I do. I used to travel 50% of the time, flying off on Sundays on my own time so that I can be in Shanghai or Australia or some other parts of Asia bright and early Monday morning for meetings. At times when I wake up in the morning, it takes me a min to figure out which city and which hotel I am in :D

what is work? things one do so as to be paid by the employer? or simply things we do for passion and/or fun?

mostly, we think "work" as income generating tasks... and that's when "work" becomes a chore... a dreaded affair... we begin looking at the clock.... we begin comparing if x hours = y $....

Work has to be incorporated into our life and be part of a meaningful existence. Nothing is worse than staying in a job that you hate cos' you don't know what else to do or what else is out there. It is even worse if you hung on just because you need to pay that house mortgage or that car loan. That is not a correct way to spend precious time.

Life is way too precious to do things that you don't enjoy for 8-12hrs a day.

i totally concur.... ideally, if one is to spend every day doing something meaningful to oneself and others, then ideally, whether one gets paid or not is immaterial... IDEALLY....

Cool to be lawyers
By Melissa Pang

MOST Singaporean kids aspire to be lawyers, as they think it's the best and coolest job imaginable, according to a survey conducted by staffing services company Adecco Singapore.

The annual survey posed five simple questions to children from seven to 14 years. They include: 'What do you want to be when you grow up?'; 'Why have you chosen this and how much do you expect to earn?'; and 'What is the best/coolest job that you can think of?'

There were no surprises with the other popular career choices, with doctors, teachers, and police officers appearing as top picks.

However, a handful opt for alternative career aspirations, with play obviously as the priority. F1 driver, Game critic, Weapons Engineer, or Entertainer ('because it is a lot of fun') being some dream jobs stated.

Lawyers came up as the best/coolest job for the second year running. Other top mentions include being the President, a Vet, or a Scientist.

Displaying their imagination, some of the more intriguing choices include a job where you 'could play at the water park each day', and 'taking care of a remote nature resource on an island in the US'. One even thought that being a Deep Space Researcher would be the best job - the reason being that 'space has no boundaries'.

My kid wants to be the first trillionaire.

Since no one has done it before, she can lay her own path.

Yes, I heard about this one before. One or two decades ago, they were analysing who could be the first trillionaire. Richard Li's name came out. It was the Dot Com era.

And I never heard anymore of the issue until today :D
It's all about "how much you made when you were right" & "how little you lost when you were wrong"
