Let me share with you what happened recently on account of some one telling me...

he said he called up a potential candidate, a Singaporean male of about 30 years.... the recruiter politely explained the purpose of the call and how he came to know of this potential candidate...sought permission to speak further about the role he's trying to see if this chap would be interested...

before the recruiter could go on much further beyond briefly describing the nature of the role, he heard on his speaker " i dont think your client can afford my salary" and abruptly said he will call back, which he never did.

what has singapore become? are we now so self conceited as to not even accord ourselves the benefit of listening to an opportunity? or is it that we have bred a bunch of over confident brats?

well, Ken.

i also heard that there are many MBA students delaying their graduation this year by taking up more study modules ...

those who graduated in bullish cycle 2006-7 would have made quite a fair bit in terms of job vs. income BUT now out of job ... perhaps this is taking a break for them.

I guess it is more of a poor etiquette/courtesy than anything else.

One should never offend or reject opportunities.. esp. from head hunting firm... you never know when you will need them.

I got my second job thro' an executive search firm. They came looking for me and I met them, though I was then still happy with my first job. One thing led to another and I got moved over to my second company which I also enjoyed working in.

These are valuable contacts to be had... never turn away opportunities.. :)

My past interactions with those people at search firms have been positive experiences. I cannot imagine why anyone can be so abrupt with them. Always enjoy talking to them.

Someone needs to be the 'bad guys'. That way, others will shine more.
1. Always wait for the setup. NO SETUP; NO TRADE

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

It does not hurt to be nice to people whether they are headhunters, waiters, bell boys, maids etc.

For most headhunters, I would normally chat with them for a few minutes. For the more polite ones, I will even go out of my way to introduce people to them or to even introduce business to them.

However, there are also very rude headhunters. There's this particular headhunter who was very rude to me whenever he calls. ( Even my boss found this guy to be very rude ).

Anyway, for this particular one, I did cut him off abruptly after the second or third call. I should not even have bothered to talk to him after the first call.

So without understanding the full story of the guy who cut off that headhunter, it's very hard to make a judgement of that situation.

I think everyone is nice deep inside and there's always a reason why people would want to cut off a person abruptly.

It's Good to Know: Keeping a Career Journal

How many marketing campaigns did you oversee last year? Which performed best, and why? By how much did profits increase when you took over as sales manager? Answer questions like these correctly during a job interview, and that high-paying position could be yours.

Don't depend on your memory. Start preparing for that interview now by keeping a detailed career journal. Keep track of all the projects you work on, how they progress, and the results. Note anything you do that leads directly to profits. Note any other accomplishments as well. Then take that journal to your next interview.

It's all about Psychology...

Some Headhunters used the following at the beginning:-
1) that he is doing you a big favor
2) that he is very busy ( the headhunter has to show that he is very successful )
3) that he can afford to be rude ( again, he has to show to that there's 10,000 other people he can deal with )
Thereafter, they will change tactic and become a nicer person, so that there's an "improvement" in the relationship with you.

Actually, people in other areas eg. Sales & Marketing, also used the above tactics, not to mention if you are also chasing someone. If you are too desperate at the beginning, it's very likely that you will not get what you want.

The challenge then becomes "becoming not too desperate at the beginning, without being too rude such that the relationship cannot go further later "..
