similar to DBS when they issue rights, CapitaLand is raising capital from a position of financial and business strength.
and oso no wonder since DBS is Joint Lead Managers and Underwriters

CapitaLand and its relevant subsidiaries will have to pay an aggregate consideration of S$739.2 million if they subscribe for their respective pro-rata entitlements under the CMT Rights Issue
BUT
CapitaLand intends to fund these commitments entirely from its existing cash reserves and not from the proceeds from the Rights Issue.

That was what I was going to say..

And they will say, "We want the money to be in a position to buy up cheap Assets later. We dont need the money now. It's for future M&A" :?

BTW, there's always abit of truth in those rumors :D
It's all about "how much you made when you were right" & "how little you lost when you were wrong"

CapitaLand declines to comment on rights issue rumours

By ANGELA TAN

CapitaLand Limited on Wednesday said it will not comment on market rumour and queries that the property group is planning a rights issue.

'In response to various media and analyst queries that CapitaLand is planning a rights issue, CapitaLand wishes to state that we will not comment on such market rumour or speculation,' it said.

CapitaLand said it regularly receives and reviews various proposals of a business, financing or other nature.

'It is CapitaLand's disclosure policy to make the appropriate announcements if and when required, in accordance with the SGX-ST Listing Rules.'

Market speculation was rife on Wednesday that the property developer is planning a rights issue to raise capital.

Chief Executive Liew Mun Leong has said the company could consider acquiring some distressed real estate companies in Asia, including China and Australia.

When a company does not comment, it's probably true. Why not comment on such a damaging piece of rumor ?

For CapitalMall Trust, there's quite a few warning signs for these.

I believe iChew also posted on an announcement where Capitaland sold off some shares in CapitalMall trust... (on the CapitalMaa Trust thread)

Or
DBS gives us special deal to raise rights for 2 coys at lower px etc

CapitaLand says Temasek to buy 40% rights issue

SINGAPORE - CapitaLand, 40 per cent-owned by Temasek Holdings, said on Monday the state investor would subscribe to 40 per cent of its S$1.84 billion (US$1.23 billion) fund-raising via a 1-for-2 rights issue.

CapitaLand chief financial officer Olivier Lim told a briefing the issue was fully underwritten and counted DBS and JP Morgan among its undewriters.

CapitaLand brought forward its earnings announcement by one day and suspended trading in its shares on Monday.

CapitaLand, which has its main operations in Singapore, China and Australia, posted October-December net profit of S$78 million, down from S$675 million a year ago. -- REUTERS
