Zijin Mining reports 52pc profit jump

Zijin Mining (2899) reported a 51.76 percent year-on-year jump in net profit to 32.05 billion yuan (HK$34.38 billion) last year.

The year-on-year growth rates of mine-produced copper and mine-produced gold production were 6 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

China’s mine-produced copper output reached 1.64 million tonnes in 2024, with Zijin Mining representing approximately 65 percent of the total.

China’s mine-produced gold output amounted to 298.4 tonnes, of which Zijin Mining accounted for about 24 percent.

Sales from the copper business contributed 27.98 percent to total revenue, while the gold business accounted for 49.64 percent.

Gold Shines, Copper Holds; Spin-off Adds a Spark

Zijin reported 1H25 earnings of Rmb23,291.8m (+54.4% yoy), in line with expectations.

Mining entities’ gross margins expanded to 60.2% (+2.9ppt yoy) on higher gold prices and volumes.

Gold/copper contributed 38.6%/38.5% of gross profit, a more balanced mix that enhances earnings resilience.

1H25 gold/copper output rose to 41.2/566,853 tonnes (+16.3%/+9.3% yoy); management noted that the Kamoa flooding impact is insignificant at the group level.

Maintain BUY. Target price: HK$29.70.
