After Apple Car, Apple’s AR glasses development is also rumored to have been aborted. It has no confidence in smart glasses. Will Apple launch the affordable Vision Pro?

Apple’s earnings results for its first quarter in fiscal year 2025 came in at $2.40 per share, which was 2.13% above analysts’ estimates for earnings of $2.35 per share.

Quarterly revenue of $124.3 billion was up 4% year-over-year and just above analysts’ expectations of $124.1 billion.

Now, iPhone sales declined about 1% to $69.1 billion and missed Wall Street’s estimates of $71 billion.

I should also note that China sales continue to be a struggle for the company. However, revenue for Apple’s Services business continues to soar, rising 14% year-over-year to $26.3 billion – in line with analysts’ expectations.

This report was a bit of a mixed-bag for Apple, so it isn’t surprising that the stock finished close to flat on Friday in the wake of this news.

Apple’s overall revenue rose by 4% in its first fiscal quarter, but it missed on Wall Street’s iPhone sales expectations and saw sales in China decline 11.1%, the company reported on Thursday.

Earnings per share was US$2.40 vs. US$2.35 estimated while revenue came in at US$124.30 billion vs. US$124.12 billion estimated.

Apple said that it expected growth in the March quarter of “low to mid single digits” on an annual basis.

The company also said it expected “low double digits” growth for its Services division.

Wall Street was expecting guidance for the March quarter of US$1.66 in earnings per share on US$95.46 billion in revenue.

Apple’s profit engine, its Services division, which includes subscriptions, warranties and licensing deals, reported US$23.12 billion in revenue, which is 14% higher than the same period last year.

Apple said it would pay a dividend of 25 cents per share and spent US$30 billion on dividends and share repurchases during the first quarter.

Apple Inc - Stock Analyst Research
Target Price* USD 235.00
Recommendation NEUTRAL

Apple Inc. – All according to plan

1Q25 results were within our expectations. 1Q25 revenue/PATMI were at 29%/32% of our FY25e forecasts.

Revenue grew 4% YoY, mainly driven by growth in Services (+14% YoY) and gross margin expanded 1% YoY.

iPhone sales dropped 0.8% YoY, with regional strength offset by continued weakness in the China market (-11.0% YoY).

Our FY25e forecast remains unchanged. Our DCF target price remains at US$235, with a WACC of 6.5% and a terminal growth rate of 3%.

Due to recent price performance, we downgrade our recommendation from ACCUMULATE to NEUTRAL.

iPhone sales have not yet seen a spike, due to the very gradual and limited rollout of the regions and features.

We expect it to be backloaded in 2H25 and FY26, especially after more regions and features are made available.

Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) financials have been quite sluggish as China sales have plunged, and there has been a general slowdown in most of its metrics.

Its products have also failed to excite customers, though its recent lineup of “Air” products could recover growth down the line.

The latter is why the stock hasn’t made a big move to the downside and is up 36.7% in the past year.

Its AI rollout has been quite lukewarm, but Apple’s coming out with more affordable products and spending $500 billion in U.S. manufacturing. This should boost growth, but it’s debatable how much.

Analysts expect 8.7% EPS growth this year, along with 4.6% revenue growth. Paying 32 times forward earnings for this growth leaves significant downside risk, and the stock has historically traded at cheaper levels on average.

The consensus price target of $243.9 implies just 2% upside potential from here, so a “Hold” rating fits AAPL stock best.
