"Ksitigarbha Sutra" says: Father and son are close relatives but they are on different paths; even if they meet, they are not willing to accept each other.

《地藏經》言: 父子至親,歧路各別; 縱然相逢,無肯代受

Facing Karma

Buddhism taught me that the way to change your karma is not to respond but to feel the feeling without responding.

Then it is passed on. It does no harm.

Sorrow may hide behind laughter and happiness may end in sorrow.

You harvest what you plant, whether good or bad.

Good Karma for Others

What does it mean, in the light of karma, to wish for people to be happy?

It means you wish that they would create good karma, that they would be skillful.

Our Collective Karma

Recognizing that difficult emotions are common to all humans seems to arouse immediate feelings of empathy with others.

We share our emotions: They are part of our collective karma, the human condition.

Seeds of Karma

Just as a single seed planted in the right environment and conditions, can bring a large tree bearing flowers and fruit every year, the karmic imprints of our actions can lead to multiple results over a long period of time.

The Ripples of Everyday Actions

Whatever we do, creates certain mental impressions, which in turn produce karmic residues that later come to fruition, when the appropriate causes and conditions are present.

The Ship of Karma

While delusions compel us to separate ourselves from each other and from the truth of our interdependence, our connectedness endures.

The sufferings felt by those we disparage and harm return to us on the ship of karma.

Precepts for Protection

In Vietnam, there is a saying that when the father eats too much salt, the son has to drink a lot of water.

Karma or action, is like that.

Not only do you have to suffer, your children have to suffer also.

That is why to practice the precepts is to protect yourself and to protect future generations.
