Why is karma (actions we do daily), very powerful in influencing our future?
Can the bodies of people, their conditions, ups and downs people meet in life, can they not be the accumulated result of hereditary impacts and tendencies?
Two things stand like parallel lines before us when we consider this subject: mental and material.
If satisfactory solutions can be found in materialism for problems relating to human nature and its special qualities, then there can be no basis for believing that there is a factor called Atma or Divine!
But it’s impossible to demonstrate that the capacity to think, for example, has evolved out of physical matter.
When an item of work is done, again and again, it becomes a habit, a skill; doesn’t it? Therefore, skills or habits that a newborn exhibits must be due to constant repetition indulged in long ago.
Of course, it must have taken place in many previous lives. So, it is necessary to posit the validity of this belief in past and future lives for all living beings!
The conditions in which we must spend the future are determined by what we are doing now. Between one life and another, one death and the next, the individual either progresses or regresses, expands or shrinks.

What is the best defence we can practice daily to wipe out the effects of our past actions?
Consequences of karma (action) can be wiped out only through karma, as a thorn can be removed only by means of another!
Do good karma to assuage the pain of bad karma which you did and from which you suffer now.
The best and simplest karma is the repetition of the Divine’s name; be ever engaged in it. It will keep out evil tendencies and wicked thoughts. It will help you radiate love all around you.
Ancient sages divided karma into vikarma (that which is intentionally done) and akarma (done without any intention to gain consequences).
Follow akarma and save yourselves from suffering. All other activities like earning wealth, reputation, fame - result in suffering.
Gain internal peace and joy; that can be done only when you act without an eye on the gain. The act must be its own reward; or rather, the act must be to the prompting of the Divine within so that its consequence is offered to Him.
Practise this attitude consistently and you will find great peace welling within you and around you.

Do all work as the Divine’s work. Practice the attitude of offering fruits of all your work to the Divine.

Bad luck is not usually the result of an evil curse that has been placed on you.
Believe it or not, bad luck usually results from karma that is left over from something you did in one of your past lives.
If you have bad luck with people, your bad luck usually results from bad things you did to that same person in one of your past lives.
If you have things stolen, you probably stole from the person who stole from you. Whether you know who did it or not.
If you get cheated on, you probably cheated on that person in a past life.
And if someone is mean to you….guess what? You were probably mean to that person in a past life!

What should we do, when our problems become way larger and more complex than we expect, due to our accumulated past ‘karma’?
Neither peace nor devotion can be obtained through another; each one has to create and develop them for themselves.
Still, one should also have the grace of the Divine, which is fundamental.
As said in the Scriptures, “He whom He chooses, gets it”. But the spiritual aspirant may doubt, “What then is the need for spiritual exercises?”.
Those who think of Him with devotion, can overcome any type of inherited or accumulated karma. With His grace, they can experience even unattainable bliss.
Do not doubt the usefulness of spiritual discipline; it can never be fruitless - no, not for anyone!
Hold firm to that conviction. Unshaken devotion will win the grace of the Divine.

With purity of heart, steadiness of mind and selfless actions, one can become the recipient of Divine grace, which will remove any amount of suffering in a trice.
