Meta Platforms Inc (FB): Announced on Wednesday, April 27

The company beat analyst earnings estimates by 6.2%, reporting earnings of $2.72 per share while analysts expected earnings of $2.56 per share.

Revenue of $27.91 billion missed analysts’ estimates of $28.2 billion by about 1%.

Earnings dropped 18% year-over-year from earnings of $3.30 per share in the same quarter a year ago.

Revenue increased by only 7%, the first time the company has seen sales growth in the single digits and its slowest ever growth rate since going public a decade ago.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg cited ad changes, privacy issues in Apple’s iOS and the war in Ukraine as contributions to the slowdown.

The stock is still down nearly 50% for the year.

But Facebook is obsessed with subscriber and user growth. People think consumers don’t want to stream or add new services, but Facebook contradicted everyone on that.

Meta Platforms: Post-Earnings Reaction Indicates Worst Could Be Over

Meta reported higher than forecast daily users for Q1
Shares had dropped almost 50% this year
Some analysts believe that the reward-risk outlook quite compelling

At $195.50, FB trades for 16 times the estimated earnings, a valuation that seems quite appealing for a company producing a 33% net margin.

Facebook Sharpens Its Metaverse Weapons

by COLETTE BENNETT

The Meta Quest headset sold 8.7 million units in 2021.

Meta accomplished this by playing up all the non-game offerings available in the headset, from plentiful exercise apps like "Supernatural" to interactive social platforms like its own "Facebook Horizons."

Its newest VR headset is coming this year that's specifically designed for work. Codenamed Project Cambria and promises to mirror users' facial expressions in VR for a more realistic experience in the metaverse.

It plans to debut a total of four new headsets by 2024. Project Cambria will be the first of these.

The next two in line are reported to be new versions of the current Meta Quest 2.
These are codenamed Stinson and Cardiff and scheduled for release in 2023 and 2024.

The final headset is a follow-up to the Project Cambria headset, with a projected 2024 release date.

1Q22 revenue/PATMI at 21/22% of our FY21e forecasts.

EPS beat consensus estimates of by 6% as a result of lower than expected total expenses.

Positive user growth across all metrics for 1Q22, with Facebook DAU rebounding from negative QoQ growth in 4Q21.

Continued negative impact on revenue from suspending operations in Russia, and from strengthening US dollar.

We maintain a BUY recommendation with a DCF target price of US$312.00 (WACC 6.6%, g 3.5%).

Zuckerberg's metaverse to lose 'significant' money in near term

MARK ZUCKERBERG said he plans to invest heavily in his company's metaverse ambitions and that will mean losing "significant" amounts of money on the project in the next 3 to 5 years.

The metaverse, an immersive digital world, will eventually make money from a creator economy, as people build businesses selling virtual goods and services, the Meta Platforms chief executive officer said, responding to a question about return on investment at the company's annual shareholder meeting Wednesday (May 25).

"We want to get the hardware to be as affordable as possible for everyone, and make sure the digital economy grows," Zuckerberg said.

In the meantime, the company is betting on revenue growth from an investment in its Reels short-form video services, Zuckerberg said.

Inside Mark Zuckerberg’s billionaire lifestyle: Meta’s CEO may dress down (in US$400 T-shirts), but he splurges on Hawaiian land, mansions, top-notch security, private jets and luxury cars

Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp’s billionaire CEO was criticised for buying swathes of land in Hawaii – some called him a colonist, but he bought more anyway

He lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife Priscilla Chan and kids and drives a Pagani Huayra – on par with Ferrari and Lamborghini – along with his more humble Honda
