Bad news. My hardisk crashed after I tried to instal the new OS. I could not even startup now with my external Cdrom. Guess got to go to HP to see doctor liao.

Ouch... so sorry to hear that... :(

That's a mighty odd problem - but sometimes shit things come together at the same time (I've had some bad experiences with several variables failing at the same unfortunate time). Don't let that put you off and hope things get better. :D

Have you guys ever try booting from a flash drive? I wonder is it possible to instal a Ms-dos on my thumbdrive and boot it up from there.

Personally did not, my friend did once and it worked. But you might need another machine to prepare the thumb drive with the necessary software.

Good luck.

You BIOS needs to support it first - check and see if you can boot from USB device in BIOS and then set the booting sequence accordingly (if supported).

BTW, when you say HD crash, you're saying physically screwed, boot up get nothing? Did you try to dual-boot, or did you reformat the hard disk to install your OS?

Could be the Master Boot Record that's corrupted. If so, try a FDISK /MBR when you manage to (somehow) get booted off your USB drive or CDROM drive. Very odd that you can't even boot from the CDROM - check your BIOS just to make sure the settings are correct (can be detected, boot sequence proper, etc.)
