The Pink Book

You know that list of ingredients you'll find on each and every package of processed foods. Well that's there because it has to be, by law.

Same with dietary supplements. Everything in them must be stated on the box or bottle.

So why is it if you get a flu shot -- or any other kind of vaccine -- you're never told anything about what's in it?

Could it be that if they told us what these shots contain, no one would ever willingly take one?

Well, there is a way to find out.

It's called the CDC's "Pink Book," and it's an encyclopedia-like book all about vaccines.

Now don't think you have to buy a copy, because the part that's the most interesting, what's actually in these shots, is right there on-line for free.

You can find out that the shingles shot contains MSG, gelatin from a porcupine and blood serum from a calf...and cell proteins, including the DNA, of two aborted babies.

That sure isn't disclosed on the release form they make you sign at Walgreen's or CVS. If they did, people would be running in horror out of the store.

You'll also find preservatives in the Pink Book vaccine ingredient lists, poisons like formaldehyde and hideous-sounding things like bovine muscle tissue.

So if you've ever been on the fence about getting a flu or shingles shot -- or just need a good horror story to read on Halloween -- take a look.

And you'll find out that these vaccines are definitely not pretty in pink.

Click here to find the "Pink Book."

Add Fitness to your Daily Routine by Jackie Fildon

If you find you can't devote enough time to getting in shape as you would like, there are still plenty of ways you can keep your body active while going about your normal routine.

Try to use stairways instead of elevators whenever possible.

If you can walk there or take a bike, let your body burn energy instead of taking your car.

If you are driving, instead of wasting time looking for a good spot, park further away and walk a couple extra blocks.

Turn your housework into a fitness challenge: Sweep and mop using as much energy as possible, exaggerating your arm movements. Fold your clothes and do a couple sets of squats at the same time. Whatever you're doing try and incorporate in some sort of routine that gets your muscles working and heart rate moving.

And if you absolutely can't miss your favorite show on TV, try doing some sit-ups and push-ups while you watch or during commercials.

2 Superfoods You Need in Your Diet

According to the latest report from the National Center of Health Statistics, heart disease is the largest killer in the United States. Second on the list, cancer. How can you prevent both these killers? Simply start by adding these two superfoods to your diet:

1. Avocados - can lower your LDL -- "bad" cholesterol -- while raising your HDL -- "good" levels -- and they help your body absorb heart-healthy vitamins like beta-carotene and lycopene.

Which brings us to superfood no. 2...

2. Tomatoes - Lycopene is also an important nutrient in the fight against cancer. And there's no better source than rosy red tomatoes.

Eating them cooked, in pasta sauce, tomato soup, or chutney, actually increases the amount of carcinogen-fighting carotenoids your body is able to absorb.

New research suggests this food is a powerful way to protect your brain by Dr. David Eifrig

Add some spice to your food to help your brain… A new study from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine in Germany found a compound in turmeric – a spice used in curry – can help the brain heal itself.

Researchers injected the compound, called aromatic-tumerone, into the brains of rats. Brain scans showed that the parts of the brain involved with nerve-cell growth became more active. This leads to the thought that new cells might grow to repair a damaged brain.

While this hasn’t been tested on humans, it could mean better treatment for people with brain damage from conditions like dementia or from strokes. And longtime Retirement Millionaire subscribers already know about the health benefits of turmeric.

Last year, I told readers that turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory, which can relieve joint pain, improve digestion, and protect against memory loss. In the S&A Health Report in 2007, I explained how another antioxidant compound in turmeric – curcumin – works to fight inflammation and ward off Alzheimer’s disease.

In 1979, 2,500 men were asked to follow five simple rules – eat well, work out, drink less, keep their weight down and never smoke.

Nearly four decades on, just 25 pensioners have managed to stick to the plan. But they are all far fitter and healthier than the volunteers who gave up.

Secret of healthy ageing discovered in ground-breaking 35-year study

The Drink That Shortens Your Life by 4.6 Years

Drinking 20 ounces of soda a day, may shorten a person's life expectancy by 4.6 years.

That's similar to the effect of smoking.

A study in the American Journal of Public Health finds soda drinkers tend to have shorter telomere chromosomes, which lead to faster aging.
