Nvidia’s new AI chip delayed due to design flaws: report

NVIDIA’S upcoming artificial intelligence (AI) chips will be delayed due to design flaws.

The chips may be delayed by three months or more, which could affect Nvidia’s customers including Meta Platforms, Google and Microsoft.

The delays mean big shipments are not expected until the first quarter of 2025.

<Research>BofAS: Nvidia (NVDA.US) Shr Price Decline Increases Buying Opportunity w/ Long Term Momentum Not Undermined

NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) will announce results on 28 August, BofA Securities released a research report saying. Therefore, the broker kept rating at Buy as its top pick in the industry.

In response to reports that the launch of NVIDIA's next-generation Blackwell chip was delayed, BofA Securities noted that Blackwell won't be included in the forecast until 4Q24, and that there was no sign of delay at the company's recent SIGGRAPH presentation, as well as no mention of delay from major cloud customers (who raised their capital expenditures) or major supplier TSMC (TSM.US).

BofA Securities believed that the decline in NVIDIA Corporation's share price provides a buying opportunity, as challenges are not in demand, but in supply, and will not fundamentally undermine the stock's long-term momentum.

BofA Securities' target price for NVIDIA Corporation is US$150.

<Research>Macquarie: Investors Overreact to Potential Delay of NVIDIA Blackwell Chip Shipments

Macquarie Equity Research published a report, opining that investors overreacted to potential problems with the design and supply of NVIDIA (NVDA.US) ’s Blackwell, while believing that GB200's delivery volume in 2025 will remain intact.

Yet, if the delivery of servers in 4Q24 is close to zero, there will be short-term risks, forecast the broker, suggesting that major GB200 assembly companies such as Hon Hai and Quanta have about 5% revenue downside.

The broker added that TSMC (2330.TT) is currently its top buy in Taiwan techs.

The broker said its channel checks suggested NVIDIA has already started to ship Blackwell samples, and production is on track to ramp in 2H24.

Its base case suggested that GB200 is the highest priority of NVIDIA.

Furthermore, NVIDIA has launched the B200A to replace the B100 as its new main product.

The B200A will be delivered in 1Q25, and the broker expected to supply a total of 500,000 high-quality B200 chips this year.

NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang continued his summer of selling, offloading a record US$322.7 million worth of shares in July just ahead of a wider tech stock sell-off.

Combined with the shares he unloaded in June, the chipmaker’s co-founder and chief executive officer has sold almost US$500 million worth since the stock hit its peak amid an artificial intelligence-fuelled rally.

Nvidia shares have tumbled 14 per cent over the last three trading days, including 6.4 per cent on Monday (Aug 5) as the Nasdaq 100 Index fell to its lowest level since May.

Nvidia stock analyst flags worrisome trend

by Rob Lenihan

The company said its first-quarter data center revenue totaled $22.6 billion, up 23% from the previous quarter and a stunning 427% from a year ago.

Nvidia unveiled the Blackwell line of processors earlier this year. The company has said the flagship chips perform artificial-intelligence tasks at more than twice the speed of its current Hopper chips while using less energy and providing more bespoke flexibility.

Target Price* 155.00
Recommendation BUY

Nvidia Corp. – No change in the growth story

2Q25 results exceeded expectations on still strong AI demand and continued supply ramp.

Revenue beat NVDA’s own guidance by 7%, and PATMI jumped >2.5x YoY. 1H25 revenue/PATMI was at 46%/49% of our FY25e forecasts.

2.5x YoY growth supported by demand from Hypserscalers (45% of revenue),

Enterprises, and Sovereign nations. Forward guidance still implies 80% YoY growth in 3Q25e, while supply-demand equilibrium is expected to be reached in mid-FY26e.

We raise our FY25e/FY26e revenue by 9% to reflect higher demand for Data Centre GPUs (Hopper + Blackwell). Our margin assumptions remain unchanged.

We maintain BUY with a raised target price of US$155 (prev. US$140). Our WACC/g is unchanged (6.8%/4.5%). NVDA still dominates (~90% share) AI GPUs, which are benefitting from secular tailwinds from a shift to accelerated computing and increasingly complex Gen AI models
