if this the mass thinking....we would not have been able to milk S$2B a year .....
and we have been doing this for a long long time......
no other trade over such high returns.......
i assume the cost from infrastructure projects & maintanence comes from road tax & ERP......
COE is just good side income.....

Don't give them ideas.

When the population goes to 6M...and there is X number of people going around in bicycles....gahmen will start thinking about their 'loss-revenue'..
1. Always wait for the setup. NO SETUP; NO TRADE

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

Our gahmen laughing all the way to the bank again...

It's been repeatedly said that Singapore has one of the lowest income tax rate in the world.

Factor in the indirect taxes like COE, ERP, Road Tax, GST, high housing cost.. and we are probably on our way to tax bracket like the US (around 30% for middle class Americans).. ;)

COEs up sharply
By Christopher Tan, Senior Correspondent

COE for cars up to 1,600cc closed at $34,001, up from $28,389 previously. The premium for cars above 1,600cc shot to $45,501, up from $36,089. -- ST PHOTO: ALPHONSUS CHERN

MOTOR traders who thought bidders went overboard at the last COE exercise had a rude shock on Wednesday.

Premiums continued to head skywards at the latest tender, which ended at 4pm.

COE for cars up to 1,600cc closed at $34,001, up from $28,389 previously. The premium for cars above 1,600cc shot to $45,501, up from $36,089.

The Open category, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for cars, finished at $49,000 - from $42,001.

Even the commercial vehicle COE trekked northwards to $36,511, up from $32,890. Motorcycle premium closed at $1,221, up from $1,200.

Industry observers were taken aback by the sharp climb from the last set of prices, which were themselves markedly higher.

They attribute the results to sharp reductions in the supply. Starting this month, each month's quota is 40 per cent smaller than the same period last year.

I guess of all the taxes, I am only paying the 7% GST. Income tax should be zero for this year cos of my parenthood rebate! No other taxes I can think of which affect me (don't smoke, don't drink, don't drive). Hahaa!

So they are so happy that they make >$250K hence they cry??

It has one of the lowest income tax rate for a country, but NOT the lowest... The gahmen taxes you indirectly.. buy a car and the gahmen makes a bundle from you, year in and year out.

If I remember the statistics correctly, 60% of Singaporeans don't pay income tax.

Within Asia, HK has a lower rate than Singapore.
