hi
i am a newbie here ,
i had bot byd at 78
and look for a price to average to
get out .
any advise here ?
i think it is dangerous now as the year is closing and fund manger is going for holiday .

BYD may be researching use of Vanadium in their batteries to improve
capacity(range of car). Article implies that new BYD factory may have
been built in area close to China's Vanadium source.

Hi kuala88888,

Welcome to InvestIdeas ! May your stay be a happy and profitable one.

Cant really advise you on this company. I'm actually looking for a right time to short it :?

In the meantime, I'm enclosing a report from Daiwa for your perusal:-

Welcome Kuala888888,

I dun track BYD actively, but here are my observations.
Purchase price 78, current price 66. Unrealised loss of 15%.
Market has rose sharply in last 2 weeks, not sure how BYD has performed. Maybe market can go much higher for another 20% to 50% and BYD will be pulled along and even breached 80 and yippie - breakeven? i not sure and it could be wishful thinking.

Averaging could be dangerous. Cut loss is always another option (there are many threads of this in the forum).
it really depends on your investment style.

Better get out before Winston start to short. ;)

Slow day (or perhaps weeks ahead).

Joining in with a chart. I am not vested.

----
1. BYD has a bearish cross back in November 10.

2. Currently, support can be found at $66.80 based on the Chikou Span support.

3. Price is still above the kumo level which suggests that the uptrend is still intact and may be supported.

4. Stochastics shows that it is approaching oversold territory. Will there be a rebound from here?

1. Always wait for the setup. NO SETUP; NO TRADE

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

BYD to fully support Nokia's phone charger recall

Nov. 18, 2009 (China Knowledge) - BYD Co Ltd<1211>, China's largest rechargeable battery maker, said that it will provide full support to Nokia's recall program of 14 million faulty phone chargers produced by BYD, sources reported.

BYD may have to pay approximately RMB 100 million to absorb all related costs.

Nokia previously said that it would replace the 14 million chargers prone to electrocution risk. The chargers were transported to the European and Latin American markets. The plastic covers of the faulty chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger's internal components and potentially posing electrocution risks if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a socket.

BYD said they are working closely with Nokia to deal with the issue, especially on how to solve the technical problem, and how to improve models that exhibit such risk, said the Chinese battery maker, adding that it expected the issue would not have significant impact on its finance, operating status, and future business.

Shares of BYD fell 4.18% to HK$68.8 on Tuesday.

...but if it does not you just watch it rises everyday until your backside itch and then you jump in and the rest is gone with the wind....

Chardan Capital Market LLC - ka ni nah .....

Buffett-Backed BYD Falls After Chardan Says ‘Get Off This Bus’

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- BYD Co., the Chinese electric-car maker backed by Warren Buffett, fell the most in two weeks in Hong Kong after Chardan Capital Market LLC advised investors to sell the stock following a fivefold jump in the share price.

The company dropped as much as 7.6 percent, the biggest intraday decline since Nov. 2. It was at HK$64.35 as of the 12:30 p.m. trading break.

BYD is overvalued as it’s trading at 37 times next year’s earnings, a premium to peers, Chardan said. Investors replicating Buffett’s strategy have caused the automaker to surge since the billionaire’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. agreed to buy a stake last year.

“It’s time to get off this bus,” Chardan said in a note to investors dated yesterday. “Given that electric vehicles remain years away from gaining meaningful penetration, we would recommend investors take profits.”

Chardan began coverage with a “Sell” rating and a 12- month price target of HK$40. That’s 42 percent lower than yesterday’s close.
