Trivia
- All the shares were issued through placement at 30cts/share for its IPO. There were no shares for public subscription.
- The company has a succession plan in place even though it is family-run. (not Familee-run that is)
- The ornamental fish business is a trading business (i.e. strategy: either high volume or high margin)
- The skills from trading did not transfer well to manufacturing or retail, and they learnt

(not vested) and don't know if it is stock related.
--

Brought my family to Qian Hu this morning.

Some not so important gimmicks they have there.

1. Catch the longkang fish for $5.
- Not difficult to catch. Aim, wait and catch.
- My girl has lots of fun with this and catch more than enough fish within 5 minutes. Well ahead of the half an hour time limit.

2. Fish Spa for $10
- fish suck your leg
- they have pools with bigger fish and smaller fish
- quite a fair number of people is enjoying this 'spa'
- within half an hour, I counted at least more than 10 persons indulging in it.

But, to be true, I doubt this will contribute much to the revenue.

I enjoy looking at the arowanas. The big ones are pretty magnificent and graceful. But, I will admit that I know nothing about fish. Maybe if the stock gyrate a bit more often, I can tell more stories.

If not, this is just a place for family hangout once in a while.

Note: Moderators, feel free to move it out of this thread if you feel it belongs elsewhere.

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

I like fishes and I used to have two big tanks when I was younger.

I've not really seen many pet or fish shops in China, in either the neighbourhood stalls or in the malls.

If ornamental fishes actually becomes a hit in China, I'm sure the Chinese would be breeding them on a large scale in China later.

Qian Hu's FY08 net profit rises 22%
By ANGELA TAN

Ornamental fish sellers, Qian hu Corporation Limited, on Monday reported that net profit for the full year ended December 31, 2008 rose 22 per cent to S$6.04 million.

Revenue for the full year was up 1.5 per cent at S$93.06 million.

For the fourth quarter, net profit was up 10 per cent at S$1.74 million. Revenue for the three months period to end December was down 7.2 per cent at S$22.86 million.

Qian Hu said ornamental fish will continue to be an important core business activity of the group. It will focus on high-growth regions such as the Middle East, Eastern Europe, China and India.

The group also plans to increase its visibility in the European continent and target to increase export of aquarium and pet accessories to more than 40 countries within the year.

In China, it intends to further increase its distribution points from the existing 150 locations to more than 200 locations in Year 2009.

'In spite of the lingering global economic situation, we envisage - barring any unforeseen circumstances - continued growth in our revenue and profitability in Year 2009,' Qian Hu said.

It has proposed a first and final dividend payout of 0.2 cents per ordinary share. The previous year, it paid a special interim dividend of 8.54 cents per ordinary share.
