Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is partially responsible for the recent bout of panic in the stock market.

It canceled some of its data center leases, which contradicted its earlier doubling-down on AI.

I see MSFT as an evergreen investment since white-collar businesses can’t function without Windows and Microsoft Office products. It is also heavily involved in AI, and Azure is not that far behind AWS.

The recent correction has already priced in much of the bearishness. Unless the broader market sees a severe tech selloff, I don’t see much downside risk.

The consensus price target of $511 implies 32.5% upside.

Microsoft Stock Posts 6th Straight Down Week, Plumbs New Low In 2025; Is MSFT A Buy In March, Or Is It A Sell?

by DAVID SAITO-CHUNG

Over the past eight quarters, the Redmond, Wash.-based firm's earnings per share grew 10%, 21%, 27%, 26%, 20%, 10%, 10% and 10% vs. year-ago levels.

Those figures stand nowhere near the high double-digit or triple-digit profit growth rates seen in some young tech companies,

In fiscal 2024, Microsoft earned $11.80 a share. That's equivalent to roughly $87.7 billion in net income.

Sales over the same time frame increased 7%, 8%, 13%, 18%, 17%, 15%, 16% and 12% vs. year-ago levels.

The return on equity in fiscal 2025 is also splendid at 37%.

The fiscal 2025 year ends in June. Wall Street sees earnings rising 11% to $13.15 a share. That estimate was recently revised lower. In fiscal 2026, profit is seen accelerating 14% to $14.95 a share.

The stock's annual dividend yield has edged up to 0.9%, favoring the long-term holder. But that yield trails the S&P 500's yield of 1.3%.

Since Microsoft stock is not at all close to marking a new 52-week or all-time high and not in a position chart-wise to break out, it is not a buy now.

Given that the stock has also already fallen below its 50- and 200-day lines and plummeted for weeks, it is still a dangerous time to sell shares short. Why?

At some point, institutional investors might see the pullback as a ripe opportunity to add more shares to their long-term positions. And market makers often try to force short sellers to cover their positions by bidding up the stock after a sharp short-term drop.

Microsoft Corporation - Stock Analyst Research
Target Price* US 480.00
Recommendation BUY

Microsoft Corp – Cloud and AI-powered growth

Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud segment leads performance, with Azure AI growth set to accelerate as new data centre capacity comes online in 2H25e.

Strong demand for Office 365 continues, driven by higher ARPU and increasing adoption of E5 upgrades and Copilot tools.

We upgrade to BUY from ACCUMULATE recommendation due to recent price performance.

We maintain our DCF target price of US$480 (WACC 7.2%, g 4.5%), and our FY25e forecast remains unchanged.

We believe Microsoft is well-positioned to benefit from the rising demand for large AI models, boosting Azure’s appeal and driving incremental revenue through Copilot AI tools.

Microsoft Corporation

On Wednesday, Microsoft said its revenue hit $70.1 billion – up 13% from last year and ahead of the $68.44 billion analysts expected.

Earnings came in at $3.46 per share, beating the $3.22 that Wall Street was looking for. That’s an 18% jump from a year ago.

Its Intelligent Cloud revenue totaled $26.8 billion. Within that, server products and cloud services revenue increased 22%. and Azure Cloud – Microsoft’s cloud platform – did even better, climbing 33%.

Microsoft is going all-in on artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, CEO Satya Nadella said the company plans to invest $80 billion in data centers during fiscal 2025. And this past quarter, capital spending came in at $16.75 billion, up nearly 53%.

The company also issued guidance for revenue between $73.2 billion and $74.3 billion for the next quarter, above the consensus estimate of $72.3 billion.
