Tesla (TSLA)

Tesla has long been a staple for growth investors. But now, it’s also a name worth considering for contrarian investors – given how much the stock has pulled back.

Since reaching a closing high of $1,229.91 on Nov. 4, the stock has fallen by a staggering 41%.

But business remains on the right track. In Q1, deliveries of the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y totaled 310,048 vehicles, up 68% year over year.

Ark Invest also sees a gaming-changing product coming for the company: robotaxi.

“Tesla’s prospective robotaxi business line is a key driver, contributing 60% of expected value and more than half of expected EBITDA in 2026,” wrote Ark analyst Tasha Keeney in a report in April.

In that report, Ark expects a share price of $4,600 for Tesla by 2026. That represents a potential upside of over 530% from where the stock sits today.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Tesla is the second-largest holding at ARKK with an 8.2% weight.

Tesla reported second-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street estimates, reflecting the company's progress in getting production back on track while tackling supply-chain hurdles and Covid lockdowns at its factory in China.

The market leader in electric vehicles posted adjusted earnings of US$2.27 a share, besting analysts' expectations for US$1.83 a share based on an average of estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

But that was below the US$3.22 Tesla made in the first quarter, marking the first sequential profit decline since the end of 2020.

"The bottom line is it wasn't pretty, but it was a lot better than what a lot of investors were expecting," said Gene Munster of Loup Ventures.

"They are doing a good job navigating a difficult environment."

Shares of the company traded little changed at US$746.32 as of 5.00 pm in New York, losing the momentum of an initial spike after the results were announced.

The stock had fallen 30 per cent this year as of the close Wednesday (Jul 20) in New York.

This Stock’s Weakness is a Buying Opportunity for Growth Investors

by Louis Navellier

The supply chain crisis has impacted production at the company’s gigafactories in Berlin, Germany and Austin, Texas.

China’s pandemic shutdowns have affected production at its Shanghai gigafactory.

The fallout from his scrapped bid for Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) could invite more scrutiny for Musk from regulators.

Tesla stock is far overvalued and could plunge more than 50%

by Brian Sozzi

Reiterated a sell rating on Tesla's stock on with a $424 price target.

Skepticism related to Tesla’s autonomous driving technology and the view that Tesla's stock — which is trading on a lofty forward P/E ratio of 76 times — is not factoring in a deepening economic slowdown.

Second quarter sales rose 43% from a year ago to $14.6 billion. Operating profits surged 88% from a year ago to $2.5 billion.

Could also see an earnings tailwind later this year from cooling commodities prices.

New legislation could bring the return of demand-driving EV tax credits.

Tesla (TSLA) is My New Favorite Short

by Marc Lichtenfeld

Tesla’s cash cow isn’t its cars. It’s carbon credits.

Last year, Tesla made $1.5 billion selling carbon credits, something the company disclosed only when forced to by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Tesla’s $68 million profit from selling some of its Bitcoin holdings also added to the second quarter’s bottom-line numbers.

Tesla trades at 66 times earnings, with around 85% earnings growth expected in 2022 and 36% forecast in 2023.

I believe Tesla could fall to $150 in the next 12 to 24 months.
