Li Ka-shing etc. Invest in Student.com, Involving HK$468M

Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing's private company, and Hugo Barra, the vice-president of Xiaomi, etc. will jointly invest in Student.com, an accommodation information platform for students at an amount of US$60 million (around HK$468 million).

Student.com will use the proceeds for global expansion plan, including hiring staff and expand markets in the US, Latin America and Middle East, as well as strengthening the platform's technology.

The financing was led by VYCapital, and investors include Horizons Ventures, Hugo Barra, Expa, Daniel Ek (the founder of Spotify) and Martin Lorentzon etc.

In the coming academic year, Student.com plans to expand its business to 426 cities, covering over 1,000 universities.

The company has over 200 staff speaking 35 languages, and set up offices at 7 places in the world, including London, Shanghai, New York and Hong Kong.
