Krispy Kreme Doesn't Expect McDonald's Expansion to Cannibalize Sales

By Dean Seal

The company is currently pegging incremental gains from the McDonald's launch, set for 2H, at about 85%.

Selling Krispy Kreme's doughnuts at McDonald's gives the company inroads into new markets, particularly Boston and Minneapolis, along with current markets where the company's doughnuts aren't as widely available, including Philadelphia.

Krispy Kreme's Stock Undervalued Despite McDonald's Revenue Potential, Truist Says

The changes come after Truist analysts traveled with the donut shop's chief executive and chief financial officers last week to visit institutional clients.

Investors seem to be undervaluing the potential of Krispy Kreme's multiyear national partnership with McDonald's that was announced in March.

Krispy Kreme will begin supplying fresh doughnuts daily at McDonald's US locations in a phased rollout set to begin in the second half of 2024. Its donuts are expected to be in all 12,000 of the fast-food chain's US stores by the end of 2026.

Krispy Kreme estimates the deal will be 80% incremental to its existing footprint and will generate roughly $320 million in annual revenue at about $500 of sales per week per McDonald's restaurant in the first full year post rollout, according to Truist. That equates to increases of about 28% and 19% over the company's 2023 US and total sales, respectively.

Even if Krispy Kreme only generates 50% to 75% incrementality post rollout, the company will still achieve 17% to 25% additional revenue off the trailing 12 months US revenue base and 11% to 16% off total company sales.

Krispy Kreme stock tumbles to all-time low as doughnut maker softens outlook

by Brooke DiPalma

Net revenue fell 10.4% in the quarter to $404 million as the sale of its majority stake in Insomnia Cookies created a $101 million revenue hit while a cybersecurity incident had an $11 million impact.

For fiscal 2025, the company expects revenue growth to increase between 5% and 7%, below the Street's estimate.

However, the company expects to continue to incur costs related to the cybersecurity incident as it pays fees to cybersecurity experts and advisers.

Looks to expand its points of distribution in the US — and overall business — with US partners such as McDonald's (MCD), Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT), Kroger (KR), and now Costco (COST).

Sales per hub (where fresh doughnuts are made) remained flat year-over-year in the US.

There are currently seven Buy ratings, five Holds, and zero Sell ratings.

The company expanded its partnership with McDonald's to the New York market, beginning Tuesday. By the end of 2026, Krispy Kreme plans to roll out its doughnuts to 12,000 McDonald's locations.
