I like Gupta's straight talking ways and the fact that Peter Seah is now at the helm.
Realistically ROE of 15 to 18% is history now. He's trying to push DBS's ROE from an expected 10% to 12%.

Comment: the RSI is above 50. The MACD is above its signal line and positive.

The configuration is positive. Moreover, the stock is above its 20 and 50 day MA (standing respectively at 14.11 and 14.15).

DBS , Southeast Asia's largest bank, may be in focus after it said it had sold S$1.7 billion ($1.31 billion) of preference shares callable in 2020.

The preference shares pay a fixed dividend rate of 4.7 percent per annum.

I monitored Zhu Min, Vice-Governor of China's Central Bank, on CNBC's coverage of the Davos 2010 summit. For those who missed his msg here's it :-

Zhu said a 10 percent return on equity (ROE) ratio for banks was maybe more reasonable than the 14 to 15 percent levels seen before the crisis, and the 19 to 20 percent targets of some banks.

ROE that is only based on leverage has been part of the problems of this crisis, it should not be like that. We should not go back to these very high ROE that are based on leverage."

The timetable for implementing reforms would allow countries discretion, he said.

The Chinese are working on their banks.

TODAY reported that the average ROE for the 3 local banks for the last quarter was just above 10%.

My view abt DBS turned positive eversince Gupta was hired. Awaiting the price that DBS paid for this:-

SINGAPORE: DBS said it has reached an agreement with RBS to acquire the British bank's retail and commercial banking business in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen.

The retail and commercial banking business will include RBS' customer base of 25,000 individuals, its business portfolios and related employees in the three key Chinese cities, DBS said.

RBS' customers in the three cities will now have an option to transfer their existing accounts and deposits to DBS China.

They will also have access to DBS' Asian network, which includes 113 branches and 154 ATMS in the Greater China region, as well as its 80 branches and 1,000 ATMS in Singapore.

The transfer process is expected to be completed in six months, DBS said in a statement filed to the Singapore Exchange.

DBS China has been rapidly expanding. Over the last three years, DBS' China grew its Chinese customer base by more than five times and has doubled its staff headcount.

Earlier this year, DBS China launched its new headquarters in the Luijiazui area of PuDong, Shanghai's new financial district.

DBS is not paying any cash for this acquisition See, what a good leader can do for the bank. I am positive about DBS. It is now operating like CityDev, shedding non-core and acquiring core

Anything NEW that may translate into top and bottomline significantly - eg. New Management - can be an opportunity to invest. have to see how its performance is like going forward. seems that DBS can be turning around - usually for huge tankers/elephants like DBS, take longer to turn, but once it gathers steam and momentum, it will be interesting.

Yes, Peter Seah and Gupta is a very good team. Sometimes, they need luck too like the High Court throwing out the suit on High Notes 5 I doubt those 250 investors would appeal to the Court of Appeal. I see no merit in their case.
