Utopia

Ha Ha ... If something does really bother me, I will may write to the elected officials of that country.

In the case of Singapore, why do you think the govt are stopping the inflows of FTs and trying to build more HDB ? It's because the grass-roots are making a lot of noise in the forums.

However, posting in forums are not as good as writing directly to the officials but it does have some effect especially when a lot of people are making the same noise. You think the elected officials dont monitor the forums ? :P

You must question the structure of society.

It seems to me that the first thing to enquire into is `society' - what is the structure, and what is the nature of society - because we are social beings.

You cannot live by yourself; even if you withdraw into the Himalayas, or become a hermit or a sannyasi, you cannot live by yourself; you are in relationship with another, and relationship with another creates the structure which we call 'society'.

That structure controls relationship - that is, you and I have relationship, we are in communion with each other; in that communion, in that relationship, we create, we build a structure called society.

That society controls our minds, shapes our hearts, shapes our actions - whether you live in a Communist society, or a Hindu society, or a Christian world.

Society with its structure shapes the mind of every human being, consciously or unconsciously. The culture in which we live, the traditions, the religions, the politics, the education - all that, the past as well as the present, shapes our thought.

And to bring about a complete revolution - there must be a revolution, a crisis in consciousness - you must question the structure of society.

In Utopia, all deserving kids will have access to free University education.

If money is not adequate, the money will be diverted from activities like parades, ceremonies, national day fireworks, new stadiums, sporting events, defense etc..

Unfortunately, I do agree with you on this one.

However, it should not stop anybody who wants to make things a bit better for everyone.

The Ten Principles of a Free Society by Ron Paul

This is the Appendix to Ron Paul's new book, Liberty Defined.

1) Rights belong to individuals, not groups; they derive from our nature and can neither be granted nor taken away by government.

2) All peaceful, voluntary economic and social associations are permitted; consent is the basis of the social and economic order.

3) Justly acquired property is privately owned by individuals and voluntary groups, and this ownership cannot be arbitrarily voided by governments.

4) Government may not redistribute private wealth or grant special privileges to any individual or group.

5) Individuals are responsible for their own actions; government cannot and should not protect us from ourselves.

6) Government may not claim the monopoly over a people's money and governments must never engage in official counterfeiting, even in the name of macroeconomic stability.

7) Aggressive wars, even when called preventative, and even when they pertain only to trade relations, are forbidden.

8) Jury nullification, that is, the right of jurors to judge the law as well as the facts, is a right of the people and the courtroom norm.

9) All forms of involuntary servitude are prohibited, not only slavery but also conscription, forced association, and forced welfare distribution.

10) Government must obey the law that it expects other people to obey and thereby must never use force to mold behavior, manipulate social outcomes, manage the economy, or tell other countries how to behave.

I have one way to test out a utopian society. Put 100 people into an island and see if the concepts work.
