Unisem records turnaround earnings of RM27mil in Q3
KUALA LUMPUR: Unisem Bhd posted turnaround earnings of RM27.1mil in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2014 from a loss of RM648,000 in the same period a year earlier, as revenue climbed 10.7% to RM273.3mil from RM246.8mil.
The semiconductor packaging and test services provider said the increased revenue was mainly due to improved sales volume in its Asian operations.
“The improvement in net profits for the current quarter and financial year to date was primarily attributable to increased gross profit margin arising from change in product mix, lower overhead costs in PT Unisem (its Indonesian operations) after restructuring exercise, grant income received by a foreign subsidiary and lower interest expense," it said.
Unisem, which is declaring a dividend of 2 sen per share payable on Dec 3, 2014, earned 4.02 sen per share in the quarter.
Its nine-month results of the current financial year showed earnings totalling RM47.2mil versus a loss of RM14.6mil previously. Revenue edged up slightly in the three quarters by 1.3% to RM752.9mil compared to RM743.4mil, with earnings per share coming in at 7 sen.
