Iris to supply e-passports for Nigeria in RM170mil deal

BY M. HAFIDZ MAHPAR

KUALA LUMPUR: Iris Corp Bhd will supply 2.5 million 32-page Nigerian electronic passports under a US$42.49mil (RM170mil) supply agreement with Abuja, Nigeria-based Iris Smart Technologies Ltd (ISTL).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Thursday, the provider of digital identification solutions said the agreement signed on Wednesday was for a term of three years.

“Iris Corp shall from time to time supply and deliver such quantities of the e-passport in accordance with the letters of credit issued by the ISTL as specified in the agreement,” it said.

ISTL is a system integrator and solution provider for the establishment and management of citizen database and identity management.

On the project risk, Iris said the implementation of the agreement might be subject to unavoidable delays arising from non-compliance of specifications and capabilities pursuant to the performance.

“However, delays may then affect the profit margins of Iris Corp as time shall be spent to resolve arising issues and will delay the recognition of revenue. Notwithstanding the above, the Iris Corp group will seek to limit the risks involved through prudent financial management and efficient operating procedures,” it said.

Iris Corp shares inched up half a sen to close at 14.5 sen on Thursday, with 964,000 shares changing hands.

Iris Corp aims to be leading player in trusted identity space

July 21, 2020

"We have had the opportunity to provide our trusted ID solutions to 34 different clients with different needs and operating in different environments.

The ongoing contract to supply polycarbonate citizenship identity cards in Bhutan is an example of how Iris Corp delivers a cost-effective relevant solution, which remains compatible with legacy systems.

"We've done the same with our longest continuous client Nigeria, which launched Africa’s first e-passport with biometrics in 2003.

In 2016, Iris Corp deployed in just four months the Senegal ECOWAS Biometric eID national identity card which also functions as a voting card and a valid regional travel document, much faster than the typical period of six to 12 months.”

In addition, Saiful said, Iris Corp helped the Solomon Islands launch the first e-passport system in the South Pacific region and new e-gates for border control.

Iris Corp has chalked up an impressive track record of delivering around 100 million e-passports, more than 150 million eIDs /driving licence cards and deployed around 230,000 contactless card readers in 28 countries.

RM1.16b immigration system contract does not add fuel to Iris share price rally

by Syafiqah Salim

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 2): Despite beating various e-government service providers to bag an RM1.16 billion government contract for an immigration system, shares in Iris Corp Bhd did not receive the expected boost today.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that its share price rallied from 26 sen on Nov 2 to a high of 44 sen on Dec 31.

The group announced in a filing with Bursa last Friday that its wholly-owned subsidiary Iris Information Technology Systems Sdn Bhd had received a letter of award (LoA) from the Ministry of Home Affairs to develop and deliver the immigration system.

It said the project will contribute positively to earnings of the group during the tenure of the LoA.

Given the scant information revealed in the filing, some quarters said it was hard for investors to assess the earnings contribution that the project would generate for a period of 54 months from March 1, 2021 until Aug 31, 2025.

Others also commented that the profit margin might not be that lucrative since there was intensive competition to bid for the project.
