Lots of Ocean 11, 12 and 13 around.

Maybe, they want to be like Ocean...rich, handsome, play it big with Terry Benedict etc.
1. Always wait for the setup. NO SETUP; NO TRADE

2. The trend will END but I don't know WHEN.

New world record for longest poker game

AFP
AFP Global Edition

Jun 06, 2010 00:52 EDT

Poker star Phil Laak eclipsed the world record for the longest consecutive stint of playing the game on Saturday, putting in more than 79 hours at the table and passing both the official Guinness record as well as the unofficial one recognized in the poker world.

Laak, 37, said after breaking that unofficial record that he planned to continue playing at least until he hit 90 hours, which would occur at about 6:00 am local time on Sunday.

"There?ve been a few times where I realized if I didn't stand up I wouldn't be able to keep going," said Laak, who has won more than 2.5 million dollars in tournaments in his career and frequently appears on poker TV shows.

"I?ve been stretching a lot. I?m the stretchmaster. It helped me through."

The pro hopes to fulfill a lifelong dream to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. Authorities at Guinness wont certify whether the attempt is valid for months, after his staff sends them a recording and other documentation of the try.

Thousands watched live via webcam during the four-day effort.

Larry Olmsted currently holds the official record of 72 hours, 2 minutes, set at the Foxwood casino in Connecticut in 2004, but in poker circles the unofficial record -- not sanctioned by Guinness but still part of lore -- is Paul Zimbler's 78 hour, 45 minute stint last September in London.

Laak, who began the quest at 1:00 local time on Wednesday at the Bellagio Hotel-Casino, was permitted five-minute breaks for every hour played and typically banked his time so he could shower or do yoga.

He had a nutritionist providing meals every five hours and he had been on a strict no-sweets, low-fat diet since January to prepare for the feat.

Can Weird Mind Tricks Help You Win the Lottery?

By Jo Mason / Source: HowStuffWorks.com

We all know the statistics on the lottery. Even if you're not familiar with the exact numbers, you've probably heard phrases like, "You have a greater chance of being struck by lightning…"

If only there was some way to tip the odds in your favor. Well, they might not exactly be proven by scientific research, but there are many schools of thought on how to determine patterns in numbers or how to get luck on your side.

In this article, you will learn all about the more "alternative" ways to improve your chances at winning the lottery. From the stars in the sky to the dreams you have at night, there are many unconventional ways to attempt to get an edge on the odds.

Who can really say what turns the average person into a multi-millionaire lottery winner? Perhaps those winners kept an open mind to all of the alternative number-picking strategies available to them.

Extra-Sensory Perceptions

There are those who believe that extrasensory perception (ESP) is not the exclusive property of seers. The believers say that everyone probably has it -- to some degree. For instance, the phone rings, and you know who's calling before you even pick it up -- and you don't have Caller ID. There are several types of ESP.

Telepathy is the ability to send or receive thoughts from others without using any of the five senses. It's commonly called mind-reading. Even if you did have telepathic power, it wouldn't be likely to win you a jackpot. Why? Because no one would know what those numbers would be before the drawing; therefore, there would be no information to be sent or to receive.

Clairvoyance is the ability to perceive objects or events in the past, present, or future without using any of the five senses. It's commonly called "seeing the future." If someone did possess clairvoyance, it obvioiusly would help him or her win the lottery.

There are those who believe that certain unique individuals' extrasensory powers operate more or less at a high level throughout their lifetimes. These people are known as sensitives, mentalists, seers, or psychics. Most of us, however, are limited to an occasional flash of intuition -- if even that. Still, if you ever have a hunch that you should play a certain number or series of numbers, it can't hurt to just do it.

For example, Richard Jacobs of Mirimar, Florida, had played the Lotto only once before, but he "had a hunch" that he should play again. He ended up with over $4 million.

Dreaming

Of course, you can't control the things you dream about, but if you do happen to dream about a specific number, then play it. Again, it can't hurt. If you dream about a certain number of people or objects, play that number also. Your subconscious often gives you clues in riddles, so become adept at interpreting hints from your dreams. For instance, if you dream of buying eggs at the convenience store, play the number 12 (a dozen). Or instead, play numbers with the same value as the one you dreamed of. For example, if you dream of the number 6, play the numbers 15, 24, 33, 42, or 51.

A Texas woman dreamed about dancing feet on three consecutive nights. Later she bought an instant Texas Two-Step ticket that depicted a pair of cowboy boots dancing. She won over $1,000.

Even though you may not be able to control your dreams, you can keep track of them. Sleep researchers recommend this method to help you remember your dreams: Keep paper and pencil within reach of your bed. Before you fall asleep, tell yourself that you will remember your dreams. When you wake up in the morning, try to recall the night's dreams while they're still fresh in your mind. Think about your dreams, and then write down as much as you can remember before you forget. And definitely jot down any numbers you see in your dreams.

The Unexplained

Carl Jung had an interest in numbers. He also made a lifetime study of coincidence. Jung attributed these occurrences to unknown forces seeking to bring order to a chaotic world. He wrote that coincidences happen more frequently than probability theories would predict. He called the phenomenon synchronicity -- when seemingly unrelated events occur in some unexpected association with each other.

Certainly, when it comes to lottery games, some very strange things indeed have occurred. As to whether they are random occurrences or synchronicity, pure chance or fate, only you can decide.

Fred Thompson of North Haven, Connecticut, had played 111 in the Pick 3 Game for days with no luck. But when he went to the store, he bought a Lotto ticket on a whim and forgot his usual Pick 3. That night he watched in dismay as the winning Pick 3 numbers -- 111 -- were announced. He wasn't disappointed for long, though. Shortly afterward, he found his Lotto ticket had won him $3.2 million.

Remember Bernie Bobowicz, who won the New York Lotto? Several years before he found the six winning numbers in the Bible, he had won over $3 million using his old army dog-tag numbers. And on the day he won using the Bible, he also picked five of six on another ticket.

In July 2000, Lotto Texas changed its field of numbers from 50 to 54. On the very first night, the six numbers drawn were 9, 28, 35, 51, 53, and 54. In a seemingly incredible coincidence, three of the four new numbers were drawn. Some people were skeptical, believing the drawing results were too coincidental. At the time, an assistant professor of statistics at Rice University, Keith Baggerly, said, "It's rare, but not that rare." He said the odds were 1 in 330 that three of the new balls would be drawn.

If Jung's theory appeals to you, then your challenge is this: Assimilate what you read in this article about numerology, astrology, dreams, charms, and so forth. Then use all those ideas creatively in connection with people and things that are personally significant to you, such as your family members, house, job, and hobbies. Who's to say that the people who used a toy spinner to win $14 million weren't actually making use of the ancient art of divination?

How to Beat Slot Machines With Your Mind By Randall Fitzgerald
SOURCE: Phenomena Magazine

Inside every casino slot machine manufactured today is a computer chip called a random number generator, sometimes referred to as the heart and soul of the 'one-armed bandit' because it determines the outcome of every bet and play. (Rng's generate number combinations reflected on symbols that appear on the payline of a reel to indicate whether you have won or lost.)

What most people in the gambling industry don't know is how the random number generator (Rng) was invented and used four decades ago in parapsychological experiments testing the ability of the human mind to intuit, or influence, streams of number data.

Helmut Schmidt created the first Rng in 1969 for a mind-over-matter experiment while he was a physicist for the Boeing Company Laboratory. His test subjects concentrated on affecting the movement of a circle of lights that corresponded to the Rng's counter being set in either a 1 or 2 position.

By odds of 10,000 to 1 beyond chance expectation, Schmidt's test subjects affected the number sequence governing movement of the lights.

Within a decade other parapsychological researchers had employed Rng's in even more extensive and sophisticated experiments. At Princeton University test subjects were asked to coax Rng's to produce either larger-than-average or smaller-than-average sequences of numbers. The most effective subjects felt a resonance with the computer that involved a loss of awareness of themselves and their surroundings, a state similar to deep meditation.

Nearly a half-million experimental trials were conducted at Princeton and the results appeared in the book, Margins Of Reality, by Professors Robert Jahn and Brenda Dunne. Quite simply, some people were found to possess a phenomenal ability to affect (or intuit) seemingly random flows of Rng information.

Additional Rng studies at Stanford Research Institute in 1986 concluded that successful test subjects were using intuition (in the form of precognition) to determine the exact moment to press a play button and predict an advantageous string of numbers. It was during this period, the late 1980's, that Rng's as produced by International Game Technology in Nevada and other manufacturers, became a common feature in slot machines.

Physics World, an international journal for physicists, published a Greek physicist's paper on Rng's in 2000 that concluded the human mind can "sustain the 'direction' of any naturally occurring localized deviations from chance, such as a run...the operator could affect the patterns by which the bits are arranged in time."

All of these results taken together make a persuasive case that, under the right conditions, a human being can 'intuit' the most 'pregnant' slot machine to play and feel the right moment to play it to 'capture' a number combination that will produce a jackpot.

Many mega jackpot winners report having felt an intuitive attraction to a particular machine that proved a winner. Sue Henley, for one, went to the New York-New York casino in Las Vegas after work one morning in 1997 after feeling a strong intuitive resonance with a particular machine. "I gamble when I have a feeling," she explained after hitting a $12 million jackpot on the machine. "I only play when the hunch or feeling comes up."

My own experiences with intuition and slot machine jackpots since 2002-- amounting to $6,000 in winnings at a time -- have proven to be the anecdotal proof for me that probability theory, on which all casino executives base their 'house edge,' does not always rule with a firm hand.

Randall Fitzgerald examines luck-making strategies and gives advice on winning games of chance from his website, www.doctorluck.com.

Largest World Cup bet ever placed on Germany to beat Spain By Brooks Peck

As emphatically as one could ever tell a psychic octopus to shove it, someone has placed a €500,000 ($631,000) bet on Germany to go against Paul the octpus' prediction and beat Spain in their semifinal match.

U.K. bookmaker William Hill says the record bet was placed over the phone at 10/11 odds. If Germany wins, the caller, who is "based in Europe," will take €954,000 ($1.2 million). A William Hill spokesman told Bettingpro.com:

"There has never been a bigger World Cup bet placed and it follows a number of other hefty wagers on the Germans to win the tournament, including 80,000 euros at 14/1 and 100,000 euros at 13/2, and another 75,000 euros for them to reach the final. We don't much mind who wins the World Cup at this stage - as long as it isn't Germany.

"Mind you, Spain haven't exactly been unbacked and we have bets of £50,000, £25,000 and two of £10,000 each on them to win the tournament."

So while the people at William Hill root for Spain in a pool of cold sweats and Paul the octopus floats, completely oblivious to the concept of sports, a few anonymous Germany fans will stand to make an incredible amount of money off a single match. Assuming Germany continues their bulldozing of all comers. If not, just try to muffle your laughter.

UPDATE: Well, Spain won 1-0, Paul was right again and that European better is now out €500,000. Let this be a lesson to all of us. Never ever bet against an oracle octopus.

Luckiest Woman Alive Wins
4th Multi-Million Dollar Jackpot

By Mike Baird / Source: Corpus Christi Caller Times

Once, twice, three times a millionaire -- now it's four.

Joan R. Ginther, a native of Bishop who moved to Las Vegas, made her fourth appearance Monday at lottery headquarters in Austin to collect seven figures, lottery officials said.

Ginther, 63, won $10 million, the top prize in Texas Lottery's $140,000,000 Extreme Payout scratch-off ticket, pushing her total wins to $20.4 million.

It was her third time to win on a ticket from a Bishop store, and second one at Times Market at 525 Highway 77 Bypass, in Bishop.

"This is a very lucky store," said Bob Solis, store manager. The owner Sun Bae is the one with the lucky hand, Solis said. "Sun sold both the winning tickets to the woman."

The store, which sells about 1,000 lottery tickets daily, now is eligible to receive a bonus of $10,000 for the second time, lottery officials said.

"It's incredible for the store owner," said Bobby Heith, spokesman for the commission. "Most of our 16,000 retail stores have never sold a winning ticket."

In 1993 Ginther first won a $5.4 million share of an $11 million Lotto Texas jackpot for a ticket bought in Bishop. She opted for annual payments of $270,000 (excluding tax charges) for 19 years.

On year 13, while visiting Bishop to care for her father in 2006, Ginther won the top prize of $2 million in the Holiday Millionaire game. It was on a $30 scratch-off ticket she bought at Diamond Shamrock at 525 S. 14th St. in Kingsville. Ginther requested a lump-sum payment of about $1.5 million, after the 25 percent taken by the commission for taxes.

Two years later she collected a $3 million prize in Millions and Millions, another scratch-off, at the same Times Market where she won this week.

Ginther requested minimal publicity, according to the lottery commission, and could not be reached Friday.

The commission doesn't calculate the odds of winning millions more than once, Heith said.

"We have had multiple winners before," he said. "But she's obviously been born under a lucky star."

Ok I really didn't know where to post this article, so sorry if it's classifed wrongly !

Won't people learn not to bet? It will take half a lifetime to clear such huge debts! The article didn't mention if he made a loss having to sell his car for S$82,000 (as it may still be on loan).

The New Paper

By MAUREEN KOH

HE was thrilled when Germany beat Australia 4-0 in the Group Stage match at the World Cup last month.

In just under two hours, the first-time bettor made $6,000 - the equivalent of two months' salary for the secondary school teacher.

But by the time Brazil suffered a quarter-final defeat by Holland, John's thrill had turned into shock and fear.

He had chalked up nearly $130,000 losses in bets with three different illegal bookmakers.

The only way for him to pay off his debts was to sell his car.

He started with "small bets between $2,000 and $4,000" for the first two matches, but upped the stakes to as high as $10,000 for each bet.

At his request, we are not using his real name as he risks losing his job.

In the hour-long interview with The New Paper on Sunday earlier this week, John, 28, who has been teaching for two years, pleaded repeatedly: "Please, please don't name the school too.

"I can't afford to lose my job now - my future will be gone."

While he has "deeply regretted" his folly, he admitted: "I realise it's too late."

He added: "I was blinded by greed."

Only his girlfriend, a 26-year-old primary school teacher, knows about his debts.

John said: "I've already let my parents down - I can't hurt them further."

It was his cousin who had introduced him to football betting, he claimed.

John follows the English Premier League and the European Championships.

But he had never placed any bets on the matches, even legally, until last month, when his cousin bragged about how much money he had made in the World Cup four years ago.

John said: "I was tempted, especially since my girlfriend and I were planning to get married next year. My cousin said it was a golden chance for me to make extra cash."

He added: "If not for him, I wouldn't be in this mess."

Three online accounts

It was through the same cousin that he managed to open three online accounts with different bookies.

When contacted, his cousin, who wanted to be known only as Mr Low, said: "Look, it's easy to blame someone else when you lose.

"But no one forced him to bet, right?"

He added: "It was (John) who asked me to recommend the other (two) bookies when he could not place bets with the first one."

Mr Low claimed he did not bet at all and had asked another friend for the recommendation.

While John conceded it was his own folly, he blamed tournament favourites such as Italy, France, England and Brazil for his woes.

Just like Beng, the NTU undergraduate who lost more than $8,000 by betting on the hot teams.

In an interview published in The New Paper on Sunday on June 27, Beng said: "Who'd expect these teams to fare so badly in the Group Stage"?

"Even when they held on to a draw in some matches, I still lost money because I had given a one-ball or two-ball handicap."

Biggest losers

Most punters prefer betting on tournament favourites and would often concede a handicap. When these teams lose or draw in a game, punters - like John and Beng - turn out to be the biggest losers.

John said that when he defaulted on his payment, he was made to sign IOUs with two bookies.

When he skipped the deadline for his interest payment, John claimed they threatened to turn up at the school.

He said: "That's when I got really worried and decided to confide in my girlfriend."

In a telephone interview, his girlfriend, who wanted to be known only as Annie, said: "I thought (John) was joking but when I realised he was serious, my reaction was, 'Are you mad?"

"I was also furious - we were supposed to travel to Japan during the (June) school holidays but we put it off so that he could watch the games. Then this."

It is only because Annie is certain that John is repentant that she is willing to help him with the debts.

They managed to pool together about $30,000 from their individual savings and with a $9,000 loan that John took from a private moneylender, he managed to settle the account with one bookie.

He has also just been informed that a personal loan of $11,000 with a bank has been approved.

John intends to use the money to return part of his remaining debts.

He has put up his two-year-old Honda Odyssey for sale at $82,000 and hopes to put the nightmare behind him after this.

"It's a hard fall but I've learnt my lesson," said John.

"My advice to everyone out there is simple: You may be excited when you think you're on a winning streak but that excitement is short-lived.

"And when the bubble bursts, you are the one who has to suffer the losses. By then, it can be too late."

Those who bet illegally can be fined up to a $5,000 or jailed for a maximum of six months or both.

Any person who is involved in bookmaking can be fined between $20,000 and $200,000 and jailed for up to five years.

He borrowed $9k from moneylender to settle one bookie.

If he is lucky, they let him pay back slowly. If he is not, ...
