Words of Wisdom 01 (May 08 - Oct 08)

The whole world is one vast mansion. It contains many rooms. Each country constitutes one room in this mansion.

Hence, the whole world should be considered as one home. When you regard all the limbs as parts of a body, you should consider the function of the heart in it. It is the heart that supplies blood to every part of the body. Likewise, Truth and Righteousness, constitute the blood sustaining all countries.

- Divine Discourse, February 13, 1997.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?

Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?

Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
It's all about "how much you made when you were right" & "how little you lost when you were wrong"

"beat dog must see who the master is" :lol:

Here are a couple from my idol, Jesse L., whom I consider the greatest stock operator of all times... :D

I re-read them every day to remind myself to do independent thinking about the market and to be flexible and not stuck at one mode..

"Wall Street never changes. The pockets change, the suckers change, the stocks change,
but Wall Street never changes because human nature never changes."

"I know from experience that nobody can give me a tip or series of tips that will make money
for me than my own judgement."

“Profits always take care of themselves but losses never do."

"If a stock doesn't act right don't touch it; because, being unable to tell precisely what is wrong,
you cannot tell which way it is going. No diagnosis, no prognosis. No prognosis, no profit."

"There is only one side to the stock market;....not the bull side or the bear side, but the right side.
It took me longer to get that general principle fixed firmly in my mind than it did most of the
more technical phases of the game of stock market speculation."
"If a speculator is correct half of the time, he is hitting a good average. Even being right 3 or 4 times out of 10 should yield a person a fortune if he has the sense to cut his losses quickly on the ventures where he has been wrong" - Bernard Baruch

yo guys,

I immersed myself in e street of Chinatown (Pagoda) w my 2 brothers J & L - this morning, ie. all of us were evaluating e traffic flow for potential f&b opportunities. without fail, everytime, when i am down, they spark me up. why? from their pupils, i can see e undying passion of setting up new business & extending out of their dad's businesses. u can never imagine that: as e 3rd generation kids, e responsibilities on their shoulders are as huge as tons of "invisible weight".

I paced thro' e streets, while waiting for them. uniquely, i came across this ex-RI teacher (his name is Andrew Yip) relating his past [thro' black and white photos] & present [thro'transliterating your english name to chinese calligraphy characters] to e filtering tourist crowd.

i stopped, pondered - if we are able to relate our past + present thro inks and shutters, are we able to foretell our future? or to prophesy a stock-market boom/ crash?

in e end, we spent 2 hours squaring our heads to listen to this aged man, what can we learn from here? same answer: e undying passion to relate his stories to e futuristic youths ... to shape their own future & define their own vision of wealth by providing them e foundations of our grannies legacies.

do u like poetry? if so, u should enjoy his extract as much as i do; below is one of his works that i picked out of his glassy cabinets of collections:

On the street i knew before
Poem: Andrew Yip

I saw a place with a nice new face,
On the street I knew before -
A place where passion stirs and memory stays,
A lingering dream of yesterday once more.

I saw a house that memories rouse,
And an old tree I used to climb,
To see the shed for cows, the garret for mouse,
Just like once upon a time.

Now I often walk on the street we lived and loved before,
I linger long, as I've missed you more and more,
Each pace brings new hope as I try to trace,
Old folks and friends who still stay in God's grace.

A Never Aging Heart
by Kennynah

i was at a place with a new face,
on a street that was never before-
a place where passion stirs and music stays,
a rush once more

i saw my old beau, memories rouse,
and my heart pounded again -
to see her glad, to see her children,
my smile regain

now often, i listened to the music of before,
of yester years i missed more and more -
each beat brings new hope as i try to sing along,
of our dreams where in God's plans, they belong

@ chapter 78 (三国志): when Cao Cao (曹操) died at e age66, a certain poet composed "A Song of Yejun" expressing sympathy:

I stood in Yejun and saw the River Zhang
Go gliding by. I thought no common human
Ever rose from such a place. Or he was great
In war, a poet, or an artist skilled.
Perchance a model minister, or son,
Or famous for fraternal duty shown.
The thoughts of heroes are not ours to judge,
Nor are their actions for our eyes to see.
A man may stand the first in merit; then
His crimes may brand him chief of criminals.
And so his reputation's fair and foul;
His literary gifts may bear the mark
Of genius; he may be a ruler born;
But this is certain: He will stand above
His fellows, herding not with common people.
Takes he the field, then is he bold in fight;
Would he a mansion build, a palace springs.
In all things great, his genius masters him.
And such was Cao Cao. He could never be
Obedient; he a rebel was, foredoomed.
He seized and ruled, but hungered for more power;
Became a prince, and still was not content.
And yet this man of glorious career
When gripped by sickness, wept as might a child.
Full well he knew, when on the bed of death,
That all is vanity and nothing worth.
His latest acts were kindly. Simple gifts
Of fragrant incense gave he to the maids.
Ah! The ancients' splendid deeds or secret thoughts
We may not measure with our puny rule.
But criticize them, pedants, as ye may
The mighty dead will smile at what you say.

Guan Yu (关羽) was captured & executed by Sun Quan (孙权), at age58.

Zhang Fei (张飞) was assassinated by his own generals at e age55 when he was drunk in sleep.

And that in Chinese (actually I think it's Chapter 78 of 三国演义 rather than 三国志):

后人有《邺中歌》一篇叹曹操云:

邺则邺城水漳水,定有异人从此起:
雄谋韵事与文心,君臣兄弟而父子;
英雄未有俗胸中,出没岂随人眼底?
功首罪魁非两人,遗臭流芳本一身;
文章有神霸有气,岂能苟尔化为群?
横流筑台距太行,气与理势相低昂;
安有斯人不作逆,小不为霸大不王?
霸王降作儿女鸣,无可奈何中不平;
向帐明知非有益,分香未可谓无情。
呜呼!古人作事无巨细,寂寞豪华皆有意;
书生轻议冢中人,冢中笑尔书生气!
