Capsules suspected of liver damage recalled

China has ordered a hemorrhoid medicine off pharmacy shelves over fears the capsules were to blame for liver problems, state media reported on Wednesday.

The State Food and Drug Administration demanded the nationwide recall of the ''Zhixue'' capsules made by Vital Pharmaceutical Holdings in southwest China, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Twenty-one people across the country suffered liver problems after taking the medicine in past months, and another 14 reported other problems, Xinhua reported.

But the notice posted on the SFDA website on Tuesday said investigators were still trying to establish whether the pills caused the illness.

Is this true?

ASPARTAME - THE SILENT KILLER
For those who take Ricola & Fisherman , please note that they both contain Aspartame - the silent killer.

Fisherman Sweets
FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO EAT FISHERMAN SWEETS BE CAREFUL: Sugar free products contain ASPARTAME .. So don't consume Sugar free product esp.. 'fisherman sweets' ASPARTAME - THE SILENT KILLER (by Ron Harder)

To those who prefer to consume artificial flavouring:

There is an epidemic across North America today of Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus. Most people do not understand why this epidemic is happening, and they do not know why these diseases are so rampant. I would like to share with you the main reason we are having this very serious problem. Many people today use artificial sweeteners in their tea or coffee.

They do this because the ads they see on TV tell them that sugar is bad for their health. This is absolutely true. Sugar is toxic to us , but what most people use as a replacement for sugar is much more deadly. I am talking about ASPARTAME. It is the cause of the epidemic that was mentioned above. ASPARTAME is an extreme! ly toxic chemical that is produced by a chemical company called Monsanto.

ASPARTAME is being marketed around the world as a sugar substitute and is found in all diet soft drinks, such as Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi. It is also found in artificial sweeteners such as NutraSweet, Equal, and Spoonful; and it is used in many other products as a sugar replacement.

ASPARTAME is marketed! as a diet product, but it is not a diet pro duct at all. In fact, it will cause you to GAIN weight because it makes you crave carbohydrates. Causing you to gain weight is only a very small part of what ASPARTAME does. It is a toxic chemical that changes the brain's chemistry. It can and does cause severe seizures.

This chemical changes the dopamine level in the brain, and it is particularly deadly for anyone suffering from Parkinson's disease.

ASPARTAME is extremely poisonous, and here is why one of the toxic ingredients of it is wood alcohol. When the temperature of ASPARTAME exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in it is converted to Formaldehyde, and then to formic acid, which in turn causes folic acidosis.

FORMALDEHYDE is grouped in the same class of poisons as Cyanide and Arsenic which are very deadly toxins. The only difference is, Formaldehyde kills quietly, and it takes a little longer. And, in the process of killing people, it causes all k! inds of neurological problems. There are 92 do cumented symptoms of Aspartame Poisoning leading to coma and death.

Philippines seizes Chinese counterfeit cigarettes

Philippine customs authorities have seized a container loaded with counterfeit cigarettes from China with a street value of 10 million pesos (HK$1.56 million).

Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales said Thursday the Marlboro-branded cigarettes arrived on November 2 from China. The raid followed a tip from the intelligence liaison office of the World Customs Organization.

He says they were marked ``Made in the Philippines'' and declared as household wares.

No arrests were made. The Philippine Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service and Philip Morris International confirmed they were counterfeit.

The seizure is part of a global crackdown that has netted more than 274 million counterfeit cigarettes since 2005.

Warning on hair dye

The Consumer Council found 18 in 30 samples of hair dyes sold in the markets failed to satisfy labeling requirements for the sensitizer they contain.

Only 13 samples contained the caution statement ''Caution. This preparation may cause serious inflammation of the skin in certain persons and should be used only in accordance with expert advice'' in both Chinese and English as required by the law.

The council warns hair dyes contain some skin sensitizers which might have the potential to cause allergic reactions such as reddening of the skin, inflammation and itchiness.

Needles that snapped in infant's vein recalled

China said on Friday it had recalled a batch of disposable medical needles after one snapped when inserted into an infant's vein.

Health organisations were ordered to stop using the needles, made by a Shanghai-based firm, after tests on another six from the same batch showed they all broke easily, a health ministry statement on the central government website said .

The faulty needles follow the recall earlier this week of a hemorrhoid medicine over fears the capsules were to blame for liver problems, and in October of herbal injections after three people who used them died.

Japanese firm recalls eight million US bottles of water
Crystal Geyser spring water

TOKYO - A Japanese company said Monday it would recall about eight million bottles of Crystal Geyser spring water imported from California after customers complained about its smell.

Otsuka Beverage said it had received around 75 consumer complaints about the water in October.

"We have decided to recall certain lots of bottles since we received an unusually high number of complaints in October," said a company spokesman.

The company's testing of the affected products indicated no problem, he added.

"It is possible that smells can be transferred to bottled water while being stored in warehouses during the summer," he said.

The water should not pose a risk to human health, but the firm has decided to recall the bottles as a precautionary measure to ensure customer confidence, the spokesman said.

Water sold outside Japan was not affected, the firm said.

It was the latest of many recent recalls involving food and water in Japan that have caused concern among consumers.

Kirin Beverage Corp. recalled Volvic brand water from France in October following customer complaints about strange smells.

Food safety has become a sensitive issue in Japan after a flurry of scandals involving Japanese companies that mislabelled expired produce or sold pesticide-laced food, mostly imported from China. - AFP/vm
