Only the individual can change, not the mass

I am talking to the individual because only the individual can change, not the mass; only you can transform yourself, and so the individual matters infinitely.

I know it is the fashion to talk about groups, the mass, the race, as though the individual had no importance at all, but in any creative action, it is the individual who matters.

Any true action, any important decision, the search for freedom, the inquiry after truth, can only come from the individual who understands.

If any one of us is truly individual in the sense that he is trying to understand the whole process of his mind, then he will be a creative entity, a free person, unconditioned, capable of pursuing truth for itself and not for a result.

Where can we find the Divine? How long should we persist with our spiritual practices?

Just as the calf seeks the udder of the cow for the nourishing milk, seek the Divine and His Glory in Nature.

As a matter of fact, Nature is useful only when it adds to the wonder and awe, that it is able to provoke and sustain.

Everything is an image of the Lord. That is why joy wells up in you when you see and hear the stories of the Lord, and how He attracts all to Himself.

It is the call of the object for the reflection to merge in it. So all are entitled to the merger, and all finally have to attain it.

Remember, you have to come to the Divine, if not in this birth, at least within ten more births! Strive to acquire Grace which is the reward for spiritual practice.

Can the mind only think about freedom, as a prisoner does?

You have to find out for yourself, and not wait for me to tell you, whether the mind can ever be free.

Can the mind only think about freedom, as a prisoner does, and so is doomed never to be free but always to be held within the bondage of its conditioning?

What should we do to make sure we achieve the true potentials of this human birth?

Man is the monarch of all animals. Though the elephant lives longer, the lion is more fierce, the eagle more far-seeing, the cock more punctual in early rising, the cow more imbued with the spirit of sacrifice and so on, human birth alone has in it, the potentialities that can be brought out by proper culture.

You are born with a helpless lamenting cry; you should die with a smile of joy. That is the purpose of the years between.

But those years are wasted now. People are tossed about from one want to another, one grief to another, until they are blinded by despair and exhausted by foiled pursuits.

Most illnesses are due to this despair and exhaustion.

The Divine alone is your anchor, who will save you from stress and storm. Do not neglect or ignore Him in your life.

They think they know what is good for man

It seems to me that the whole world, is intent on capturing the mind of man.

We have created the psychological world of relationship, the world in which we live, and it in turn is controlling us, shaping our thinking, our activities, our psychological being.

Every political and religious organization, you will find, is after the mind of man, after in the sense of wanting to capture it, shape it to a certain pattern.

The powers-that-be in the communist world are blatantly conditioning the mind of man in every direction, and this is also true of the organized religions throughout the world, who for centuries have tried to mold the way of man's thought.

Each specialized group, whether religious, secular, or political, is striving to draw and to hold man within the pattern of that which its books, its leaders, the few in power think is good for him.

They think they know the future; they think they know what is the ultimate good for man.

The priests, with their so-called religious authority, as well as the worldly powers, whether it be in Rome, in Moscow, in America, or elsewhere, are all trying to control man's thought process, are they not?

And most of us eagerly accept some form of authority and subject ourselves to it. T

here are very few who escape the clutches of this organized control of man and his thinking.

What is the highest spiritual discipline? What should we always keep in mind even as we endure the rigours of a spiritual pursuit?

The highest spiritual discipline is to follow assiduously the instructions of the Master. Years and years of rigorous training make a soldier, who can then stand all the rigours of warfare.

''The heroic fighter was not made in a day. Restrictions, regulations, drills and techniques laid out for him, were practised for a long time.

So too, the practising spiritual aspirant, who can win victories in life, cannot be made in just a day!

Understand this and seize your opportunity in this life; put it to full use. You will need to come and merge in the Divine, if not in this birth, at least in ten more births.

Hence, do not let go of the opportunity and strive most earnestly, from today, to acquire the Lord’s Grace. The Compassionate Lord will certainly bestow Grace upon you as a reward for your spiritual practices.

How can we overcome attachment and get nearer and dearer to the Divine?

A green gourd sinks in water, but a dry one floats. Become dry - rid yourselves of attachments, desires, and avoid anxieties and worries. Then you can float unaffected on the waters of change and chance.

Even water, when it becomes steam, can rise into the sky. Be free from the desires that drag you down; have only the yearning to come face to face with the Truth.

The truth is shining inside you, waiting to be discovered. The Divine is your Indweller and so when you seek Him outside, He cannot be caught.

Look for Him within you. Love Him with no other thought, and feel that without Him, nothing is worth anything. Feel that He is all. Then you become His and He becomes yours. There is no kinship nearer than that!

The individual is destroyed through compulsion

Organized religion, organized belief, and totalitarian states are very similar because they all want to destroy the individual through compulsion, through propaganda, through various forms of coercion.

The organized religion does the same thing, only in a different way. There, you must accept, you must believe, you are conditioned.

The whole tendency both of the left and of the so-called spiritual organizations, is to mold the mind to a particular pattern of conduct because the individual left to himself becomes a rebel.

So, the individual is destroyed through compulsion, through propaganda, and is controlled, dominated, for the sake of the society, for the sake of the state and so on.

The so-called religious organizations do the same, only a little more suspiciously, a little more subtly, because, there too, people must believe, must repress, must control, and all the rest of it.

The whole process is to dominate the self in one form or another. Through compulsion, collective action is sought. That is what most organizations want, whether they be economic organizations or religious.

They want collective action, which means that the individual should be destroyed. Ultimately, it can only mean that.

You accept the Left, the Marxist theory or the Hindu, Buddhist or the Christian doctrines, and thereby you hope to bring about collective action.

Belief is not reality

Belief is not reality. You may believe in God, but your belief has no more reality than that of the man who does not believe in God.

Your belief is the result of your background, of your religion, of your fears, and the nonbelief of the communist and others is equally the result of their conditioning.

To find out what is true, the mind must be free from belief and nonbelief.

I know you smile and agree, but you will still go on believing because it is so much more convenient, so much more respectable and safe.

If you did not believe, you might lose your job, you might suddenly find that you are nobody.

It is being free of belief that matters, not your smiling and agreeing in this room.

What is important to survive in this ocean of life? Wealth, scholarship or Love for the Divine?

Jesus Christ gave the following example, while teaching His fishermen disciples:

‘In a river the water is flowing in a swift current. But the tiny fishes are able to swim in it and move about merrily, despite the speed of the current.

In the same river, a huge elephant caught in the rapids, is likely to get washed away or drowned in spite of its enormous size. The elephant just cannot survive there!

The reason is: What you need for survival in a river is not being large, but the ability to swim. Likewise a person who is caught up in the ocean of worldly existence needs, not so much metaphysics, scholarship or wealth, as much as the grace of Divine love.’

Without any knowledge of the doctrines, one can still surmount all the problems of life, if one is blessed with the Divine's love. Hence, remember the Lord with Love, worship Him with Love and sanctify your life with Love.
