It May Be More Than Just a Fender Bender

If someone bumps your car from behind, be advised – it might be more than just a fender bender. It could be the prelude to something much worse.

Apparently, there has been an uptick in robberies – and car jackings – that begin as innocent-seeming minor accidents. A car bumps into you, you stop, get out to see what happened – and become a victim of more than just someone else’s poor driving. See here for a recent example.

What to do?

Most of all, pay attention to your gut. If something feels wrong, it may in fact be wrong.

Usually, these things start out as very light “love taps” – just enough to get your attention – and get you to stop/get out of your car. A significant impact is usually just an accident. Thugs want to steal your car, not wreck your car.

Shop Like a Car Reviewer By eric

I test drive a new car every week – and have developed a checklist I use to help me do the subsequent write-up.

This checklist might help you buy the right car for you, too.

Rear seat seatbelt use can save your life as a driver! By Dan Greenhill

Even if you're riding in the front seat and wearing your seatbelt, you can avoid having rear seat passengers becoming projectiles by having them wear their seatbelts.

A recent study revealed that wearing a seatbelt in the backseat of a car could dramatically reduce the risk of death and injury to front-seat occupants.

In a review of over 100,000 automobile accidents, researchers concluded that the use of seatbelts in the backseats could have reduced fatal injuries to front-seat occupants by as much as 80% !

What’s Worse?

Well-intended people often do bad things to their cars – without realizing it, or understanding what the possible consequences could be.

So, which is worse?

Going in for an oil change? By Michelle Forentino

Are you tired of going in for an oil change and then paying for the oil change, an air filter, a transmission flush, and new alignments that you were told you needed?

Your car may not have needed any of the extra maintenance so be wary of what mechanics are telling you.

In many "quick lube" mechanic franchises, the mechanics are paid on commission and are pressured into selling a certain amount of "accessory" services every week.

When you're deciding on where to take your vehicle, give a quick call before you go and find out how the employes are compensated.

If you can't avoid mechanics on commission consult your vehicle's manual before you go. It should list the mileages for when you should get a new filter or have your transmission flushed.

Keep records of when maintenance is performed so you know exactly when it should be done again, instead of letting some greedy mechanic tell you to pay for something that your car doesn't need!
