W - Magnolia is a good film, but you must follow it closely. There is a twist at the end.

Saw this Korean movie recently. Quite ok as I had quite low expectation :)
It's all about "how much you made when you were right" & "how little you lost when you were wrong"

Watched THE HURT LOCKER.

Excellent movie. The script is good and acting excellent. It deals with the emotional turmoil within the soldiers from an elite bomb disposal unit in Iraq and the dangers they face daily.

The Hurt Locker (2008)

An intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. James behaves as if he's indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever. Written by BWR Public Relations

When SFC William James joins Bravo Company in Iraq, they have a month or so left in their tour of duty. He's a bomb disposal expert and he is replacing Sgt Matt Thompson, a long-standing member of the team who was recently killed disposing of an improvised explosive device. To say that James loves what he does doesn't quite capture the emotional high he experiences when he gets to do what he does best. For his fellow squad members however, including Sgt JT Sanborn and Spc Owen Eldridge, they just want to survive the few days of duty they have left. James risk taking however drives them all to the edge. Written by garykmcd

US Army Sergeant First Class Will James, Sergeant JT Sanborn and Specialist Owen Eldridge comprise the Bravo Company's bomb disposal unit currently stationed in Baghdad. James is the tech team leader. When James arrives on the scene, Bravo Company has thirty-nine days left on its current deployment. It will be a long thirty-nine days for Sanborn and Eldridge whose styles do not mesh with their new leader. James is a renegade for who the thrill of the dismantlement seems to be the ultimate goal regardless of the safety of his fellow team members, others on the scene or himself. On the other hand, Sanborn is by the books: he knows his place and duty and trusts others in the army to carry out theirs as well as he. And Eldridge is an insecure soldier who is constantly worried that an error or misjudgment on his part will lead to the death of an innocent civilian or a military colleague. While the three members face their own internal issues, they have to be aware of any person at the bomb sites, some of who may be bombers themselves.

oh yeah...i saw the news that Hurt Locker swept quite a few oscars..

i can understand why this show appealed to the americans.... i suppose if nazi germany won the WWII and they produce a movie about how they genocided the jews and how they fought courageously on the beach of normandy against the allied forces, they would also win some european film awards...

顺者生,逆者亡

hurt locker seriously reminds of this japanese propaganda movie ... how the movie industry producers will sell their souls to attain riches...

haha... funny la..

I think the only reason Y THE HURT LOCKER beat AVATAR is because they haven't given the best picture to a Sci-Fi film in the history of the academy awards.

I did not know that the director of THE HURT LOCKER was an ex-wife of James Cameron, the director of AVATAR...

Maybe directing abilities got transmitted subliminally while they were sleeping (much like controlling the avatar) :D
