Victim tells police he was convinced by a promise of 20% return on investment.
The 33-year-old salesman at a telecommunications company in Padawan had been attracted to an investment scheme offer on Facebook and contacted the suspect.
“The suspect convinced the victim that a 20% profit would be paid out on the investment and told him to deposit money into several accounts.
“Without doubting (the suspect), the salesman made 19 money transfers totalling RM524,800 to seven bank accounts between April 28 and June 5.
He only realised he had been cheated when the suspect failed to contact him.
