What are three virtues that are most cherished by the Divine?
Ahimsa, the virtue of nonviolence, is the very first virtuous flower that the Divine loves the most.
This involves much more than abstention from injuring living beings. One should desist from causing pain to any living being not only by deeds, but even by words and thoughts. One should not entertain any idea of hurting or humiliating another.
The second flower that the Divine desires is control and mastery of the senses. One should not run after sensual pleasure and sensory joy.
The third flower that is very dear to the Divine is compassion (daya). Compassion towards all living beings and all things is pleasing to the Divine, for ‘All is Divine’, verily!
You must always remember that the scriptures teach us that adoration and respect paid to any Divinity reaches the Supreme.
It must also be cherished with equal validity, that humiliation caused to any living being reaches the Supreme.
- Divine Discourse, Oct 06, 1981.
Perform duty based on wisdom, the wisdom that all is one. Let your every duty be suffused with devotion; that is to say, with humility, love, compassion, and non-violence!
