Why you shouldn't get a flu shot this season
From LewRockwell.com:

This year it is more important that you protect your children and loved ones from the flu vaccines than influenza itself. Here are the reasons:

1. This flu is simply another flu. It is not unusually deadly. In fact, the H1N1 swine flu in circulation is less deadly than many other influenza outbreaks.

I'm very concerned about the side-effects from the vaccination. Will it end to a "I am Legend" typed of scenario ? Anyway, China has already started to vaccinate some "high-risk" people, starting with all those who took part in the parade. And now the US is starting to vaccinate people.

U.S To Begin Massive Campaign Against Swine Flu

(RTTNews) - The United States will begin a massive campaign to combat Swine Flu--the A(H1N1) virus, as it is also known--to vaccinate millions of Americans against it, commencing the distribution of the first 600,000 doses manufactured by MedImmune, a division of AstraZeneca, reports say.

H1N1 can kill fast
WASHINGTON - THE new H1N1 flu is 'strikingly different' from seasonal influenza, killing much younger people than ordinary flu and often killing them very fast, World Health Organization officials said on Friday.

A review of studies done during the seven months the virus has been circulating shows it is usually mild, but can cause unusual and severe symptoms in an unlucky few, according to a WHO-sponsored meeting in Washington this week.

'In severe cases, patients generally begin to deteriorate around three to five days after symptom onset. Deterioration is rapid, with many patients progressing to respiratory failure within 24 hours, requiring immediate admission to an intensive care unit,' Dr Shindo said.

The good news is that quick treatment with the antiviral drugs oseltamivir, made by Roche AG under the brand name Tamiflu, and zanamivir, made by GlaxoSmithKline as Relenza, helps a great deal, she said.

Usually influenza is a disease of the upper respiratory tract, affecting the nose and throat. But H1N1 goes deeper, into the lungs.

'This virus really likes the lower respiratory tract. That means this virus is very likely to cause viral pneumonia compared to seasonal influenza,' Dr Shindo told a news conference. -- REUTERS

Here are five things every parent needs to know about the H1N1 vaccine:

1) The U.S. H1N1 vaccine trial was conducted with only 600 kids, so the range of adverse reactions won't really be known until thousands of kids have been vaccinated.

2) The trial found that TWO injections are needed for children under the age of 10.

3) The trial used injectable vaccine, but the first vaccines available will be FluMist, which are sprayed into the nose. Unlike injectable vaccines, FluMist contains live virus.

4) Some hospitals are directing their doctors and nurses to avoid the H1N1 flu mist vaccine because the inhaled live virus can be passed on to patients with compromised immune systems.

5) Among the H1N1 vaccine highest priority groups are kids 6 months to 4 years of age, but according to FluMist prescribing information, FluMist should not be given to children under the age of 2 "because of increased risk of hospitalization and wheezing."
