if i start photographing strangers in public places in singapore...is that a criminal offence?

Not sure - but i have friends who like to take pictures of anything in public (including strangers) - you just need to be super discreet or have super powerful lens! :lol:

i tell you an incredulous experience i had...i was at clark quay mall...i stepped outside and walked towards the river... and there i saw mediac*ck filming in progress...so, i whipped out my phone and was about to take a couple of shots when a young woman from the film set quickly approached me and blared " you cannot take pictures "... she was lucky that day, i was in good mood... becos all that i retorted was whether it was against the singapore law to be taking pictures in public? obviously, she wasn't able to answer but merely repeated, "you cannot take pictures"... hahahaha... cartoon becos these people actually thought they are some super stars...
the rebellious me went ahead and snapped on...without focusing the camera on any particular subject but clearly in the direction of the filming location... i smiled at her ... she walked away... LL....

some people have no manners to ask nicely...they forget basic courtesy... and of cos, i'm also guilty of it now and then....sue me lah... :lol:

Generally, it is not an offence (unless you are taking upskirts). It is after all 'PUBLIC'.

But, there will always be exceptions (which I am not sure where the boundary is). eg. Photo journalist taking photos of flood etc. Or maybe if you take photo of some celebrity and their assistants start 'barking' at you etc.
