Guns N' Roses singer robbed after private gig

Thieves stole gold necklaces and diamonds worth around 200,000 dollars (160,000 euros) from Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose as the singer gave a private concert in Paris, a police source said Wednesday.

The theft from Rose's dressing room late Tuesday enraged the 50-year-old singer from the US supergroup and police were called in to calm the situation, the source said.

Rose held his private gig, attended by around 100 people, after a public performance at Bercy stadium.

He is the only remaining member of the original line-up of the rock band that was formed in Los Angeles in 1985 and whose best known songs include "November Rain", "Patience", and "Sweet Child o' Mine".

Rose has been named one of the best rock singers of all time by various media, including Rolling Stone magazine.

Deep Purple co-founder Lord dies aged 71

Jon Lord, keyboardist with legendary British rock band Deep Purple and co-author of their most famous hit Smoke On The Water has died aged 71, his family announced on Monday.

Lord, who also played with Whitesnake, died at the London Clinic on Monday, surrounded by family, a statement said. "Jon passes from Darkness to Light," it added.

The former keyboardist had been battling with pancreatic cancer since last August.

Ex-Rage Against the Machine star Tom Morello wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter: "RIP the great Jon Lord, Deep Purple's cornerstone/keyboardist. So many great great songs and that incredible SOUND of his! Thankyou."

Friend Rick Wakeman, former keyboardist with fellow prog-rockers Yes, said he was "a great fan".

"We were going to write and record an album before he become ill," he said.

"His contribution to music and to classic rock was immeasurable and I will miss him terribly."

George Michael 'woke from coma with different accent'

AFP - British singer George Michael has revealed that he woke from his three-week coma talking in the broad West Country accent spoken in western England.

London-born Michael, who almost died of pneumonia at the end of last year, said he was unable to revert to his usual accent for two days after gaining consciousness and his family feared he would be stuck with the new one forever.

"I swear this is true," the 49-year-old told London's LBC radio station on Tuesday. "I came out of my coma talking in this West Country accent."
