Why Drinking is Making You Sick

According to a new study by Loyola University researchers, binge drinking “significantly disrupts” the immune system of healthy, young adults.

The study consisted of 15 study participants (with an average age of 27). Each were asked to drink 4 to 5 shots of vodka, depending on their weight.

Twenty minutes after their peak level of intoxication, their immune systems went into overdrive: blood tests showed higher levels of three kinds of white blood cells that are very important for your immune system functionality.

Blood tests were administered two hours, then five hours later, and showed a decline in immune system activity from when the participants were sober.

Studies say that one in six U.S. adults binge drink about four times a month — but we all know people lie on those tests, anyway.

If you want to keep your immune system functioning at its best remember to keep it to just one or two drinks next time.

Stop Feeling Tired - Eat This!

It's 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon and you start feeling tired. Instead of reaching for another cup of coffee, try snacking on a few pecans.

Studies have shown that pecans not only protect against Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and heart disease.

But, they are also a great source of vitamin B3, which helps us access the energy in our food.

MI - Methylisothiazolinone

When a preservative commonly used in skin-care products was found to be causing rashes and irritations, some manufacturers began removing it.

But one company found a whole new use for it.

Last summer, Colgate-Palmolive introduced a new mouthwash called Colgate Total Lasting White. It contained the preservative MI, short for methylisothiazolinone, which was fast becoming known as an allergy trigger.

And that's about the last place that anyone sensitive to MI would expect to find it.

Like the Pennsylvania mother whose hands started to look like she had "been in a fire." It took her months to discover she was allergic to the MI in baby wipes.

But she never dreamed it might be present in a mouthwash. Even when her throat became chronically sore and began to swell.

But then, as Dr. Bruce A. Brod noted, "It's not a preservative that we've seen commonly in products that are used anywhere but on the skin." And he should know, being president-elect of the American Contact Dermatitis Society, which in 2013 named MI its "allergen of the year."

But that's not all. A European committee on consumer products noted that there are "no safe concentrations" of MI for products that stay on the skin. As a result, the group said it should only be used in limited amounts for things like soaps and shampoos that are rinsed off.

Yet, it can still be found in dozens of items like lotions, sunscreens, and moisturizers.

And now in mouthwash.

So if you should develop a strange skin rash or swelling in your throat, you might want to start checking the ingredients of any items that touch your skin regularly -- or your mouthwash.

The 3-2-1 Goodnight Formula By: Craig Ballantyne

If you want to sleep better and live healthier, here's a simple 3-2-1 formula to use for bedtime. It helps you avoid interrupted sleep, heartburn, and insomnia.

First, stop drinking all alcohol three hours before bed. Alcohol might make you feel sleepy at first, but it impairs your natural sleep cycle and interrupts valuable deep sleep.

Second, finish all eating at least 2 hours (and preferably more) before bed. I'll admit, that's the toughest one for me, especially when traveling for work and trying to stick to my early bedtime. However, the New York Times recently reported that eating close to bedtime increases your risk of heartburn.

Finally, turn off all electronics one hour before bed. The blue light emitted from screens makes it difficult to fall asleep. Spend the final hour reading books, talking with your spouse, meditating, taking a bath, or enjoying 'other' activities in the privacy of your bedroom - but don't be reading your iPhone or Tablets just before bed, unless you want to stare at the ceiling for another hour. Use that simple 3-2-1 rule and you'll be better rested to control your morning and win your day tomorrow.

The Dangers of Too Much Jogging

Too much jogging may be as bad for you as not putting on your running shoes at all, a report in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says.

Scientists studied more than 1,000 healthy joggers and non-joggers over a 12-year period. Those who jogged at a steady pace for less than two and a half hours a week were least likely to die in this time.

But those who ran more than four hours a week or did no exercise had the highest death rates.

Danish scientists concluded the ideal pace was about 5mph (8km/h) and that it was best to jog no more than three times a week or for 2.5 hours in total.
Scientists are not yet sure what is behind this trend - but they say changes to the heart during extreme exercise could contribute.

In their report, they suggest: "Long-term strenuous endurance exercise may induce pathological structural remodelling of the heart and arteries."

Eliminate nighttime worries

If your mind races when you should be sleeping, try this:

Using the heel of your hand, rub the area between your eyebrows while imagining your worries gathering under your palm.

Then exhale and slowly lower your hand.

Meditation experts say this helps you round up anxious thoughts and discharge them, so you will drift off with ease.

Lettuce tea helps deepen sleep

According to German researchers, summer sleep problems can drag into fall since it takes up to 5 weeks after the hot weather ends, for the brain to start producing adequate amounts of sleep-inducing melatonin.

The lettuce leaves contain lactucarium, a natural sedative and muscle relaxant that can help you drift off within 30 minutes of your first sip.

To make the tea, chop 2 whole romaine lettuce leaves and let simmer in 1 cup of water for 20 minutes.

This is a bigger danger to your health than your weight by Dr. David Eifrig

Inactivity is a bigger danger to your health than your weight… according to researchers from the University of Cambridge.

Researchers conducted a 12-year study and found that increasing activity cut mortality rates 7.5%, while losing weight only reduced mortality rates 3.6%.

Only 20 minutes of walking a day was needed to see benefits.

Being overweight still carries plenty of risks… Excess body weight limits your mobility and puts unnecessary strain on your joints and organs.

But this study shows the huge benefits just a little bit of exercise each day gives… no matter your weight.

Walking outside is my preferred way to get moving every day. Do what I do and get the benefit of exercise and a little sunshine on my skin.
