Re: Investment & Non-Investment Books

Hello all, I am gg to buy the book 'how to make a milllion from the stock market', by William J. O'Neal. He is the creator of CANSLIM.

Earlier this week I browsed through a copy of it and was very surprised that the last rule of it was to determine market direction (this was what attracted me to the book). All along I thought CANSLIM is a FA technique.

Chiron,

Paiseh... I am not too sure if Bill O'Neil ever wrote a book of that name. You might want to confirm again.. Are you talking about "How to make money in stocks"?

Cheers,

I just borrowed "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" from the library this evening and will use the weekend to read it. This is one of the books which was highly recommended by yourself when you commented on one of the posts in my blog some time back.

I was wondering if you had other good personal finance books to recommend ? Thanks ! :D

MW,

The Secrets of the MM by T.Harv Eker deals with the psychology of wealth... and that we will not make a dime more or less than what we subconsciously feel we deserved... not what we logically want and he teaches you how to overcome that. I tot it was a pretty good read. I have an audio book on that and I listened to it once a month for a whole year to "rewire" my wealth files.. :D

The personal finance books related to stock mkt investing... you probably won't like them :D cos' might not go down well with a value investor. Here is the list that have totally changed my mind about the market if you are ever interested.

1. How to make money in stocks by Bill O'Neil
2. The battle for investment survival by Gerald Loeb
3. My Own Story by Bernard Baruch
4. How to trade in stocks by JL
5. Reminiscience of a stock operator by Edwin Lefevre

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
mm

Thanks MM. Though I know our methods are different, I still appreciate the list which you recommended. Will check them out when I next visit the library or bookstore.

Have a good weekend. :)

I read the book, it's quite a good read. But the guy in person is a !@#$%^. He's very arrogant...not the kind of millionaire I want to become. He came to singapore recently.

La Pap,

You went for the MMI seminar last year??? I went too :D

I tot it was OK.. but then again I am biased.. cos' I lived in the US for 3 years so I am used to the American style of communication... does not bother me.

Asians generally will feel Americans who talk loud are arrogant...

I didn't go, but my gf did. She told me it's quite commercialized, to the point that there are people queuing to buy the 6 jars at an exorbitant price! I can't believe people will spend money to buy the jars literally..I thought it's the idea that is important. Anyway, haha :)

But I do like his idea of a play jar. That's enlightening to me. As I said, the book is good :)

La Pap, from what you describe, it seems the presenter is more a salesman rather than genuinely trying to help people ? I am not sure about such seminars because they usually involve a lot of bluster and loud talk (correct me if I am wrong).

Or perhaps, as MM said, I am unused to the "American" way of communicating, which may seem loud and brash to us Asians.

That's the impression my gf gave me. She was impressed by the ideas in the book, but after the seminar, it was sort of disappointing to see Harv acting like that. Let the bullishly-biased views of MM temper my bearishly-biased view of it :)
