Trump administration cracks down on US investments in Chinese firms

Move targets companies that Washington says are owned or controlled by the Chinese military
Executive order affects some of China’s biggest firms, including Huawei, China Telecom, China Mobile and Hikvision

According to the order, starting January 11, any US investors would be banned from trading securities of Chinese companies that were designated by the US Defence Department as backed by the Chinese military earlier this year.

For investors who own securities in the blacklisted Chinese companies, they have until November 11, 2021 to sell them. And for securities that are newly added to the list, US investors will have 365 days to divest the securities, counting from 60 days after the designations are announced.
