MOSCOW SUBWAY BLASTS
Suicide bombers kill 37

MOSCOW - TWO female suicide bombers blew themselves up on packed metro trains in central Moscow's morning rush hour on Monday, killing at least 37 people in the deadlist attacks in the Russian capital for over a decade, authorities said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts but suspicion was likely to fall on groups from Russia's North Caucasus, where the Kremlin is fighting a growing Islamist insurgency.

Moscow authorities said the attacks were caused by female suicide bombers wearing belts packed with explosives.

The first blast just before 8am (0400 GMT, 12pm Singapore time) tore through the second carriage of a train as it stood at the Lubyanka metro station, close to the headquarters of Russia's main domestic security service FSB. It killed at least 23 people.

Another blast about 40 minutes later wrecked the second carriage of a train waiting at the Park Kultury metro station, killing 14 more people.

'Two female terrorist suicide bombers carried out these bombings,' Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov told reporters at Park Kultury metro station.

Russia seen borrowing for 1st time since 1998

Reports: Russia will place eurobonds late April, first borrowing in 12 years

Russia's finance minister says the country is likely to go ahead with a eurobond issue in late April, the first time it will have borrowed from capital markets since 1998.

The government needs to raise extra cash to manage a budget deficit equal to 6.4 percent of economic output.

Alexei Kudrin was quoted by Russian news agencies on Wednesday as saying that Russia will probably place eurobonds after a road show on April 21-22.

Kudrin confirmed that the government may place as much as $17.8 billion worth of bonds this year, but is likely to borrow significantly less.

Russia's economy contracted by 7.9 percent amid the global downturn last year, but has been on a rise since the third quarter last year thanks to strong oil and commodities prices.

No1 has responded to the above post :?: I'm amazed by the above. :o Wonder if some other Singaporeans(or maybe PRs) are so resourceful. I watched Russia Today abt an hour ago and the news featured the grand opening of a Forster-designed iconic bldg in Astana, the new capital of Kazakstan. If you make a visit to the Kazakh embassy in Singapore, you will be surprised.

Definitely more Russians now.

No hard facts to support it. Only observations of neighbours, families, teenagers etc.

Some are ethnically Russians but from the CIS. And I heard they also like Sanya, Hainan Island and Bali.
The 'thing' (mustn't sound bigoted) abt Russians is that they don't have the heart-throbbing good looks like the Spaniards  .
