China first half gaming revenue at 105b yuan, report saysChina’s game market is booming. A new report says that the market generated about 105 billion yuan (US$15 billion) in revenues in the first half, a 5.2 percent increase.
The semi-annual game industry report from data company JoyNews Corporation and the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association also noted that the old-fashioned game market has already become saturated, XInhua reports.
That explains why companies are spending more on developing new technologies and market segments, such as E-sports and games that target female players.
According to the report, E-sports revenues jumped by about 16 percent in the first half of the year to top 41 billion yuan.
"For any game developers, if you want to be competitive, you'd have to improve and upgrade the technology. Then there's innovation. And only with innovation can we offer better designs or more new games to our users,” said Liu Huicheng, president of Ourpalm, one of China's leading web and mobile game developer.
