These 2 Digital Advertising Giants Will Hold Up Well Amid Coronavirus

by Adam Levy

Digital advertising giants like Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) and Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) have noted the negative impact the environment has had on their businesses.

Twitter withdrew its original first quarter guidance, warning revenue could decline year-over-year, and Facebook said it saw a weakening in its ads business in late March.

Amazon's ad business will see huge market share gains

Indeed, Amazon may account for a big portion of the 24% of marketers who said they're retaining or increasing their search ad spending.

Google can help marketers reach very specific consumers

Google's ad business is much more diversified than Amazon's. It's highly exposed to the travel industry, which has been hurt exceptionally hard by coronavirus.

Additionally, YouTube represents a significant portion of its advertising business, and digital video advertising has been hit much harder than search.

Facebook and Twitter represent more brand-advertising opportunities than Google.

Advertising is the lifeblood of Google's business.

This Is One Of The Greatest Secular Growth Trends

by Louis Stevens

Summary

I will describe in-depth the future advertising channels that currently do not exist, but will likely exist in the future.

Additionally, I will highlight how machine learning and artificial intelligence will further enhance digital advertising, accelerating the digital ad revolution and creating massively winning stocks.

They say data is the oil of the 21st century, and to invest in data would be a wise method to generate ROI, but I believe there's an underappreciation for the extent to which the digital ad revolution is creating companies that have outstripped the size of even the largest oil giants of the 20th century.

While there are still decades during which this field will evolve, investing in companies at the heart of this trend will surely result in substantial returns for the decade ahead.

And Roku and Amazon are just two ways to play it!

Advertising Agencies

In the eyes of Wall Street, ad agencies already have lost some of their sheen.

The three big publicly-traded companies have struggled over the past decade.

The Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE:IPG) has returned a solid 75%, though even that figure lags the market.

Omnicom Group (NYSE:OPC) has gained just 10%, while WPP plc (NYSE:WPP) has actually declined.

None of the three stocks is priced for growth: IPG is the most expensive yet trades at just 10.4x the consensus estimate for 2021 earnings.

Weak 2020 performance — on average, the three stocks to sell have lost one-third of their value — obviously is a factor. But 2020 weakness isn’t just about the short-term hit to revenue. The pandemic is likely to accelerate the shift to digital advertising, programmatic in particular. It’s not a coincidence that The Trade Desk (NASDAQ:TTD) has more than doubled while ad agency stocks have fallen sharply.

There’s little reason to see a reversal of the 2020 trend. Targeted advertisements with the aid of algorithms and ‘Big Data’ will be more effective than broad, expensively-tailored campaigns. From a wider standpoint, any high-tough, labor-intensive business is likely to struggle as computing power increases.

This is an industry that already is showing signs of being disintermediated. Come 2030, it may well be an industry on its last legs.

Meta and Alphabet Are Losing Their Advertising Throne

Meta Platform Inc (NASDAQ: META) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) are losing their dominance to Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL).

Their share of revenues are expected to drop to 48.4 percent in what will be their fifth annual decline.

ByeDance-owned TikTok is the choice of today’s youth.

Microsoft and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) announced back in July that they will build an advertisement-supported tier of its streaming service.

AAPL forecasting a $30 billion ads business by 2026.
