Betting on China LotSynergy amid lottery boom By Wong Hoi Ching

As China is set to become the largest lottery market in the world, it is worth taking a bet on leading public welfare lottery system provider China LotSynergy Holdings (8161.HK).

China’s lottery sales have showed brisk growth momentum in the first five months of this year. Overall turnover increased 32.5 percent to 83.69 billion yuan (US$12.93 billion) from a year ago, according to the finance ministry. Of these, sales generated from China LotSynergy’s exclusive “China Welfare Lottery” video lottery terminals accounted for 6.47 billion yuan as they grew 130 percent from a year ago.

With a favorable industry environment, China LotSynergy swung to a profit of 19.53 million yuan in the first quarter of 2011 from a loss of 18.69 million yuan a year earlier. The increasingly popular China Welfare Lottery has led to demand for the terminals exceeding the supply during the quarter. It is logical to assume that a new terminal model scheduled to be rolled out later this year will become a bright spot for China LotSynergy’s video lottery business.

The company, which is listed on Hong Kong's Growth Enterprise Market, was granted approval last year by China's finance ministry to begin lottery sales through internet and telephone channels. Those initiatives are likely to become the next growth drivers for China LotSynergy in the coming years.

At around 1:40pm the nominal price of this stock changed suddenly to 0.218 (Bid 0.215, Ask 0.218) from 0.220 (Bid 0.221, Ask 0.220). There was no trade. The numbers just changed out of the blue. There were only three trades before all day, two @ 0.220 and one @ 0.221 and more orders in the Ask then in the Bid queue.

The last trade happened to be a tiny Sell Order for 0.215.

That's how easy it is to push this counter down by more than 2%. Volume was only 2.07 Mio shares with a turnover of 448.420 HK$.

To push this counter up 2% would require a much higher volume. Or wouldn't it ? And I still don't understand why the price of this stock was lowered when there were no exectuted Sell orders justifying it. I never knew that a stock can fall without a single transaction taking place.

China's lottery sales hit 100b yuan in H1

Updated: 2011-07-20 17:22

(Xinhua)

BEIJING -- China's lottery sales rose by 31 percent year-on-year to hit 101.14 billion yuan ($15.66 billion) in the first half of this year, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Wednesday.

Sales of welfare lottery tickets jumped by 32 percent year-on-year to reach 58.99 billion yuan during the period, while sales of sports lottery tickets rose by 29.6 percent to hit 42.15 billion yuan, the MOF said in a statement on its website.

The provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong led the growth. Lottery sales in the first half of the year increased by 2.87 billion yuan in Shangdong over the same period last year, while sales in Jiangsu and Guangdong grew by 2.4 billion yuan and 2.12 billion yuan, respectively, the statement said.

According to China's Regulations on Lottery Management, funds generated through lotteries are divided into three parts: prize winnings, lottery management fees and public lottery funds, the latter of which are spent on financing social welfare programs.

Just like three months ago! Tomorrow is Meeting of the Board of Directors and release of 2Q numbers. In May share price also collapsed on the days before the meeting before rallying more than 50% in the two days afterwards. Followed by 2 1/2 month of slow declines and now again.....

Is there something wrong with those numbers? Why did it go down today by 6%? Maybe I'm missing something... Is "Profit Before Taxation Growth 992.92%" too low ?
