Twitter said that there were 2.12 million automated, election-related tweets from Russian-linked accounts that garnered 455 million impressions within the first seven days of posting.

It mentioned 677,775 people in the U.S. that followed, retweeted or liked content from IRA-associated accounts at election time. Twitter will be emailing these people the facts.

Twitter: A Sprint Driven By Optimism

Jan. 29, 2018

Summary

TWTR's recent rush has been driven more by optimism and boosted investor sentiment than by an unequivocal improvement in fundamentals.

Next week's earnings report will be important, and I hope to see a boost to MAU and monetization to support the stock hype.

I continue to be a TWTR skeptic, and need to see results on paper before changing my mind.

Shares of the social media company have been up a whopping 50% over the past six months.

Last quarter, MAU (monthly active users) grew only 4% YOY, although a higher increase in DAU (daily active users) suggests engagement has moved in the right direction.

Ad revenues in the U.S. were down sharply last time, approaching -20% levels and suggesting per-ad unit monetization challenges still persist.

Management's aggressive margin guidance of 35-36% last quarter.

The fight against malicious content will cause a material impact to Twitter's financials in 2018 and beyond, particularly on the cost side.

Stocks to Sell in March: Twitter Inc (TWTR)

Admittedly, I’m not the social media platform’s biggest fan. Therefore, it’s no surprise that I’ve been rather dim on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR).

While TWTR stock’s recent meteoric rise has been nothing short of stunning, I don’t like to chase momentum. I especially don’t like to chase investments that are not fundamentally sound.

Say what you want about the nearer-term trading opportunities for TWTR; its organizational structure is pure chaos. As my InvestorPlace colleague Dana Blankenhorn explained, COO Anthony Noto left the company to seek greener pastures.

We all know that head executive Jack Dorsey is a part-timer. Blankenhorn writes that “Twitter has lost its adult supervision.” I do not disagree.

A breaking Reuters story, though, offers a contrasting take. TWTR is gaining both subscribers and ad revenues in Japan. The implication is that Twitter can duplicate the Japanese success in other markets.

To that, I say, good luck. Things are different in Japan. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) isn’t the undisputed, dominant social media platform. The Japanese prefer the Yahoo search engine over Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) ubiquitous Google.

Even if Twitter manages to turn Japan into its own powerhouse asset, one country won’t solve its problems. Specifically, its subscriber growth is stagnating and until they figure that out, TWTR is just floating on empty speculation.

Large-Cap Stocks to Sell: Twitter (TWTR)

TWTR shares dropped more than 10% after Bloomberg reported that Israel is considering sanctions against the company for online incitement.

Not only is the company dealing with these specific headline, but it also sees looming fears that tighter regulations are coming. FB officials are expected to brief various Congressional committees on Wednesday.

The company will next report results on April 25.

Analysts are looking for earnings of 11 cents per share on revenues of $606.3 million.

When the company last reported on Feb. 8, earnings of 19 cents per share beat estimates by five cents on a 2% rise in revenues.

Twitter Inc (TWTR)

The Future of Twitter Stock Hinges on Revenue Growth, Not Hype

The kings of digital advertising, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), have struggled recently.

But much hated little brother Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has actually thrived over the past several months. So far in 2018, TWTR stock is up 33%. GOOG stock is narrowly positive, while FB stock is actually lower on the year.

The big 2018 move in TWTR stock has been driven by a turnaround in the company’s digital advertising business.

For several quarters, growth in Twitter’s digital advertising business slipped into negative territory. Growth jumped back into positive territory last quarter, and that has investors excited.

But digital advertising growth was just 1% last quarter. Over at Google, digital ad revenue jumped 22% higher last quarter. Over at Facebook, digital ad revenue soared 48% higher last quarter.

Meanwhile, TWTR’s monthly active user base grew by 4% last quarter. FB’s monthly active user base grew by 14%. And FB’s user base is more than 6-times as big as TWTR’s user base.

In other words, TWTR is still the ugly duckling in the digital advertising world. A return to anemic positive growth doesn’t really mean much. Digital advertising is a secular growth industry which grew by 16% last year. Twitter should have positive revenue growth in that 16% growth industry. Indeed, 1% growth from Twitter is quite unimpressive.

But TWTR stock now trades at nearly 60-times forward earnings, giving it a significantly richer valuation than both FB and GOOG. That doesn’t make much sense.

Over the next several years, TWTR will continue to be a low-growth player in the digital ad industry because it lacks scale (only 330 million monthly user) and isn’t gaining any scale (monthly user base was flat quarter-over-quarter).

As such, TWTR stock seems maxed out. At best, this stock grinds sideways over the next several years.

Twitter Inc Stock Easily Could Climb 32% Thanks to Its New Video Strategy

A deal with Disney only makes Twitter stock more valuable

By BRET KENWELL

It’s used by everyone from athletes to Presidents to instantly reach their followers.

It’s also used as a breaking news outlet and as a collaborative real-time discussion platform
during live events.

Twitter now has a 24-hour streaming news partnership with Bloomberg, along with deals with the PGA, WNBA, Vox Media, BuzzFeed and Viacom, Inc. (NASDAQ:VIA).

Last quarter, Twitter reported 3% growth in its monthly active users to 336 million, while daily active users grew 10%.

Since February, Twitter stock has been chopping in a fairly wide range between $27 and $37.

They can either buy a breakout over $32 or on a pullback to trend-line support near $29.

Should $29 give way, $27 could be back on the table.

Should Twitter stock break out over $32, the $34 level would be in target. From there, the prior highs near $37 and possibly a run to $40 sometime this year could be possible.

Twitter Inc (TWTR)

Twitter recently announced that the company was hit with a bug that could expose the passwords of all its users.

The social media site is calling on its more than 330 million users to change their passwords as soon as they can after the site was hit with a bug that exposed its users’ passwords in plain text.

Twitter’s investigation into the matter revealed that there was no evidence of a data breach or misuse of the unmasked passwords, but the company is still taking precautions by asking users to change their passwords.

Users should make this change both on the site and anywhere else they may have used the password, including third-party apps such as Twitterrific and TweetDeck. Twitter has not revealed how many passwords may have been revealed by this bug.

TWTR shares dipped 1.1% after hours yesterday.

Tech Stocks to Buy: Twitter (TWTR)

Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) shares look ready to resume the upward march that started late last summer, more than doubling off of its September low into the high set in March.

A profit-taking pullback ensued, but the bulls are on the charge again pushing shares up and over their 50-day moving average.

Aegis analysts highlighted in a recent note to clients that both Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) and Viacom (NASDAQ:VIAB) have announced partnerships to deliver content — including live and unique programming — on the platform.

The company will next report results on July 26 before the bell. Analysts are looking for earnings of 16 cents per share on revenues of $696.4 million.

When the company last reported on April 25, earnings of 16 cents per share beat estimates by five cents on a 21.3% rise in revenues.
