Walmart

The giant retailer is on sale after being pummeled recently. Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is the world’s largest retailer, operating retail stores under the formats of Walmart Stores, Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, as well as Sam’s Club locations, in the United States, and it has a growing e-commerce business (including Jet.com).

Internationally, Walmart also operates locations in several countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Each week, nearly 260 million customers and members visit the company’s 11,535 stores under 72 banners in 28 countries and e-commerce sites in 11 countries.

With fiscal year 2017 revenue of nearly $486 billion, Walmart employs approximately 2.2 million associates worldwide.

The stock was absolutely crushed after reporting earnings in which e-commerce sales came in below expectations. The stock suffered its worst trading day ever, and many top Wall Street analysts have said to jump on shares after the decline.

Walmart shareholders are paid a 2.27% dividend. The Jefferies price target is $110. The consensus target is $104.49, and the shares closed on Tuesday at $91.52 apiece.

Why We Dumped Walmart Inc (WMT)

by Chuck Carnevale

In summary, we considered Walmart’s financial report rather benign.

The company continues to be massively profitable even though the last couple years are showing negative earnings and cash flow growth.

Consequently, although the dividend has continued to increase, the rate of growth of that dividend increase has slowed down considerably.

We believe Walmart’s current valuation is excessive regardless of the recent significant price drop.

Walmart Loses Its Biggest Selling Point

by Wayne Duggan

If online growth continues to come in soft, he says buyers will likely avoid the stock.

Walmart's heavy investing in its omni-channel initiatives will continue to weigh on margins and limit earnings upside, Parikh says.

Oppenheimer lowered its fiscal 2019 EPS estimate for Walmart from $5.15 to $5.23.

WMT stock currently trades at a PE ratio of 27.4, a slight premium to the 25 P/E of the Standard & Poor's 500 index.

In addition to the downgrade to "perform," Oppenheimer has lowered its price target for WMT stock from $110 to $93.

The Bears Are Wrong About This 'World Dominator' Today

By Justin Brill

The popular viewpoint is that all retail is going online and that brick and mortar is going out of style. That is false. Roughly 90% of all U.S. retail sales are still in stores.

For the first time in corporate history, revenue exceeded $500 billion, largely on the strength of its U.S. Walmart stores.

Comparable store sales (also referred to as same-store sales) were up a strong 2.6% in the fourth quarter. On a rolling two-year basis, this was the best comp sales growth for U.S. stores in the last eight years.

Walmart steps up grocery war with Amazon

Walmart (NYSE:WMT) will start offering prepared meals at its stores for the first time, a move that could boost the nation's biggest grocer following Amazon's (NASDAQ:AMZN) $13.7B purchase of Whole Foods.

Ten different meals are now available in 250 stores, and the program will expand to 2,000 locations by year's end. Prices of the prepared meals will range from $8 to $10.

Walmart Tags The Daily 200 Moving Average, Signals Strong Buy

By Gareth Soloway

Shares of Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) opened lower on Friday, tagging the daily 200 moving average.

With the stock down from a January high of $109.98 to its 87.24 (the daily 200 moving average), this is an obvious swing trade bounce play.

The stock should snap back quickly to as high as $95.00 in the coming weeks.

The stock is in extreme oversold territory. I grabbed some calls today when the stock was trading around $87.50.

Walmart is doubling down on its ‘Every Day Low Price’ strategy — and that proves it still has an edge (WMT)

by Kimberly Chin

The retailer has made significant "price investments" — the term coined for retailers that accept lower margins in order to maintain a competitive advantage — in its mass product channels. \\

CS's Sigman's price target for the retailer was $102 per share, around 16% above its current level though he maintained his "neutral" rating.

The company has undertaken several initiatives to give its e-commerce segment a jolt, which includes finalizing its acquisition of Jet.com, investing in other online retailers, expanding its same-day delivery service, and filing a patent to create an online grocery shopping service that mimics the functions of the popular dating app Tinder.

Retailer to partner with delivery startups after Amazon, Kroger and others roll out similar services

Walmart To Become Biggest Stakeholder of Indian E-commerce Start-up Flipkart: Report

Walmart and Flipkart, an Indian e-commerce start-up, are expected to reach a share acquisition deal in 10-15 days, India's Business Standard reported.

Due to the existing shareholder SoftBank's reluctance, Walmart will not become the controlling shareholder of Flipkart, but will become the largest single shareholder of the company.

Sources said Walmart will purchase 20% new shares of Flipkart.

The valuation of Flipkart will then be raised to US$20 billion from US$19 billion, a two fold of the valuation in April when the financing was led by TENCENT (00700.HK).
