The Best S&P 500 Stocks, #2: Nvidia (NVDA)

Industry: Semiconductors
Market Cap: $35.5 billion
YTD Performance: 102%

Specialty chipmaker Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a top performer in 2016 after breaking out of a multiyear rut in a big way over the last year or so.

After staying largely rangebound between $12 and $15 from mid-2011 through 2014, Nvidia hit $20 at the end of 2014, $30 at the end of 2015 and $60 just several trading days ago.

The growth story at NVDA stock has been multifaceted, including growing margins overall and a big move into automotive chips as cars use more complex in-dash displays.

Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) Comes of Age

NVDA stock is far more than just a gaming company

By Louis Navellier

Now, the company has redefined its role into what it now terms visual computing.

What does that mean? Well, it means that anything that is based on numbers and algorithms — think graphs, charts, digital displays in cars, video, virtual reality, etc. — that is represented as something more visually understandable is the core of visual computing.

NVDA has developed its own self-driving car platform in recent years. After all, major car manufacturers like Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) (Audi and Porsche), Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) (Acura) and BMW are working closely with NVDA to build out their cabins with the most advanced and accessible visual computing systems.

Recently Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) announced that it is going to use NVDA’s newest GPU for its next generation driverless car. And Chinese internet firm Baidu Inc (ADR) (NASDAQ:BIDU) announced at its recent world developers conference that it is working with NVDA to create a ‘cloud-to-car’ driverless car platform for the Chinese market.

Also in recent news is the fact that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) just launched its newest Surface desktop that is targeted to attract the next generation of users and compete directly with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). NVDA is powering the graphics for this effort.

A-Rated Tech Stocks: Nvidia (NVDA)

Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) started as a premium chip for graphics. That meant serious gamers would either buy machines with NVDA graphics cards or they would buy the cards and put them in their computers. The same with graphic designers and engineers and architects.

That was a good business. But building graphics chips is a highly competitive industry and Nvidia was up against major competition from the major players in the chip sector.

So NVDA looked to the future and how it could capture a market that was the next iteration of conventional graphics. What it landed on is the next generation of computing — data visualization, or visual computing.

You know the graphics that are showing up in your car to show mileage, gas consumption, entertainment, etc? That is visual computing. And it’s already a major business.

So now, NVDA is the major player in sectors like Big Data, driverless cars, healthcare and the graphics systems that are being incorporated in virtually every car that comes off the assembly line nowadays.

“Best of the Best” Stocks to Buy: Nvidia (NVDA)

What’s to Like: Data visualization

Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is one of those companies that has lived up to its hype again and again.

Basically, it started as the go-to maker for high-end graphic processors. That meant everyone from online gamers to pharmaceutical labs kept its products in great demand. But as a chipmaker, you end up in a commodity-based business model and it’s hard to add value.

NVDA pivoted. It has gone beyond simply punching out new versions of graphics cards and is now focusing on the massively popular data visualization market.

That means everything from driverless cars to Big Data visualization to commercial and institutional graphics.

NVDA is up 200% year to date — and it’s best days are ahead of it.

Best Stocks for 2017: Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) Stock Will Keep Soaring

NVDA stock looks ready to provide more explosive growth

By Louis Navellier

Self-driving cars. Virtual reality headsets. Artificial intelligence. The past year has brought incredible advances in technologies that defied the imagination not too long ago. My best stocks for 2017 pick is at the forefront of these fast-growing technologies — and is profiting handsomely from them.

NVDA Stock: Best Stocks for 2017-Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) StockNvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a leading computer graphics company, making graphic processing units (GPUs) for consumers and businesses.

From video games to professional visualization, datacenter and automotive applications, Nvidia’s graphics cards enhance the processing capability of its users’ computers.

The company has been in the computer graphics business for more than two decades — it invented the GPU in 1999 — so it is a well-established player. To date, Nvidia owns 7,300 patents relating to computer graphics, the largest portfolio of its kind.

NVDA Stock Powering Up

While NVDA stock got its start as a graphics card company that catered to video game enthusiasts, it turns out that the GPU has a wide range of powerful applications. Graphics cards can be used to aid computers in applications like financial modeling, oil and gas exploration, virtual reality and even in self-driving cars.

To that last point, Nvidia currently has partnerships with many leading automakers, including Audi, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) and BMW.

As self-driving cars become more widely adopted, NVDA stock’s artificial intelligence car computing platform will be in hot demand.

This is on top of Nvidia’s already explosive growth. Last quarter, revenue soared 54% to a new record of $2 billion, up from $1.3 billion in the third quarter a year ago.

Earnings per share surged 104% year-over-year to 94 cents, up from 46 cents in the same quarter a year ago.

The analyst community was expecting earnings of 57 cents per share on $1.69 billion in sales, so NVDA stock posted a stunning 65% earnings surprise and an 18.3% sales surprise.

And Nvidia is expected to keep up the pace for the foreseeable future. For the fourth quarter, NVDA now expects revenue of $2.1 billion, which represents 50% annual sales growth. Analysts are also forecasting 137% earnings growth. For the next several quarters, the company is expected to maintain double-digit sales and earnings growth.

I must also mention that for more than four years, Nvidia has paid a consistent quarterly dividend. In November 2012, the quarterly payout was 7.5 cents per share. This past quarter, it paid 14 cents per share, over an 86% increase.

At current prices, NVDA has a 0.6% annual dividend yield and a 22% 12-month dividend growth rate. Next fiscal year, Nvidia plans to return $1.25 billion to shareholders.

So, NVDA is one of those rare stocks that rates well in both Portfolio Grader, my growth stock rating tool, and Dividend Grader, my dividend stock rating tool. And while it has been on a tear in recent months, I see plenty of upside potential from here.

So if you’re looking for a top technology play for 2017 that offers a solid dividend to boot, NVDA stock is it.

THE 'PICKS AND SHOVELS' OF THE TECH INDUSTRY

Today, another look at the power of investing in "picks and shovels"...

Longtime DailyWealth readers know we often extol the virtues of investing in picks and shovels. These are the companies that sell equipment and services that are vital in their industries.

One good example is Nvidia (NVDA). The semiconductor company counts Alibaba, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft among its biggest clients. Its computer chips are in everything from video games to smart cars. And it has a head start on the booming world of virtual reality.

As you can see, business has been good for Nvidia. Over the last year, the company grew its revenues by more than 30% and its earnings per share by more than 70%.

So it should come as no surprise that shares are on the rise. Nvidia stock is one of the biggest winners of the year, up more than 225% in 2016 alone. It's more proof that investing in "picks and shovels" works...
