Nvidia shares are extending gains for a 10th consecutive session, and are on pace for their longest streak of advances since a record-setting dash in December 2016, as the world’s most valuable chipmaker announced updates to its artificial intelligence processors.

The Santa Clara, California-based company has climbed about 22 per cent during the course of this latest rally, adding about US$220 billion in market value, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

That’s as rivals are scrambling to come up with alternatives to challenge its AI dominance.

The stock has rallied about 240 per cent this year, making it the best performing component on both the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 indexes as the AI-driven frenzy fuelled rallies.

The latest surge comes as technology stocks rebound amid hopes that Federal Reserve interest rates have peaked.

Nvidia, which had been under pressure last month as new US rules banned the sale of its
cutting-edge AI chips to China, is scheduled to report earnings on Nov 21.

CHIP designer Nvidia forecast fiscal fourth-quarter revenue above Wall Street targets on Tuesday as supply-chain issues ease, but a cloudy outlook for China sales weighed on shares that have more than tripled in price this year.

Nvidia, which outsources manufacturing to chipmakers like TSMC, has said it expects supply for its AI chips to improve each quarter, with the company making prepayments and placing noncancellable orders to ensure suppliers prioritise its chips.

Demand for artificial-intelligence servers has grown rapidly, but the red-hot market for AI chips is playing out in the context of vastly expanded US export controls on what Nvidia can sell to China.

While the company said on Tuesday that it expects those lost sales will be more than made up for by demand from other countries, shares slipped about 1 per cent in after-hours trading following the quarterly results.

The market cap of $NVDA now equals the ENTIRE Chinese stock market. These are the times when you must be thinking about going contrary to the trend. At some point $NVDA will fall and $HSI will bounce. This would be a great pairs trade to consider.

I have been curious about the companies actually buying all these chips. Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent seem to be having some issues at the moment.

"How are $NVDA's margins so much higher on AI chips than gaming graphics cards?"

Because they make an H100 for $3,320 and sell it for $30,000!

Nvidia reported fourth fiscal quarter earnings that beat Wall Street’s forecast for earnings and sales.

Said revenue during the current quarter would be better than expected, even against elevated expectations for massive growth.

Here’s what the company reported compared with what Wall Street was expecting for the quarter ending in January, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv:
1. Earnings per share was $5.16 adjusted vs. $4.64 expected
2. Revenue was $22.10 billion vs. $20.62 billion expected.

Nvidia said it expected $24.0 billion in sales in the current quarter. Analysts polled by LSEG were looking for $5.00 per share on $22.17 billion in sales.

Nvidia has been the primary beneficiary of the recent technology industry obsession with large artificial intelligence models, which are developed on the company’s pricey graphics processors for servers.
