Best Dow Jones Stocks to Buy: Mastercard (MA)

Like rival Dow Jones stock Visa Inc (NYSE:V), MA is simply a payment processor.

Contrary to popular belief, Mastercard doesn’t actually do any actual lending. The company simply moves money from one account to another along its secured payment network.

When it comes to the Dow Jones stocks, Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA) has one of the biggest current economic moats and brightest futures. That’s because MA is a direct play on our growing cashless society.

Basically, MA functions as a middleman by providing the authorization, clearing and settlement of funds. It’s a toll-way, and as a toll-way MA makes money by charging fees to use its “road.”

Every time someone swipes a credit or debit card, Mastercard charges merchants, banks and other institutions a fee for using that huge payment network.

This allows Mastercard to rake in the cash. And, since its network is already built out and is so widely used, margins and free cash flows remain extremely high. Since its IPO just a few years ago, Mastercard has raised its payout by more than 900%.

Even better, MA has moved into mobile payments and expanded its online payment network. That puts MA stock right in the cross hairs of future growth as we continue to move toward a cashless society. When it comes to Dow Jones stocks, MA has the goods to keep gains going in the New Year and beyond.

Smart Money Stocks to Buy: Mastercard Inc (MA)

by Håkan Dahlström

In the world of global payments, where growth increasingly hinges on digital, Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA) doesn’t have the same kind of clout as a company like Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL). That said, they are quickly making up lost ground.

In the first half of the year, a number of partnerships struck with the likes of Suntrust, Qantas and Travelex have proven their value proposition to large clients that will drive gross dollar volume (GDV) growth.

In prepaid and commercial, we’re talking 15% growth, and in consumer credit and consumer debit, the company delivered high single-digit growth.

As the line blurs between physical and digital, with the latter capturing a bigger percentage of retail payments year after year, MA is well-positioned to take their best-in-market digital payment service (Masterpass and Masterpass QR for international markets) to the next level by increasing reach and acceptance points.

In particular, I would highlight Mastercard Send™, the company’s global push payments platform for cross-border funds transfers as holding huge potential.

In the Middle East and Africa (MEA), they are winning nine out of ten deals. If they can continue that momentum in other geographies, there’s no stopping MA.

U.S. SHOPPERS ARE STILL SPENDING TODAY

Today, we're checking in on the American consumer...

Longtime readers know we follow several companies and sectors that give us an idea of what's happening in the U.S. economy.

When people are spending on concerts or pricey electronics, it's a sign consumer confidence is high. Today's company benefits no matter what people are spending on...

Mastercard (MA) is a $237 billion payment-processing giant. In 2017, it accounted for 21% of all credit- and debit-card transactions in the U.S. The company collects a small transaction fee every time you swipe one of its cards.

So as people spend more, Mastercard will bring in more revenues. And today, folks are busy shopping... Mastercard reported record revenue of $15 billion in 2018, up 20% from the year before.

As you can see in today's chart, MA is soaring. The stock is up almost 30% over the last year and recently hit a new all-time high. As consumers continue to spend, expect this credit-card stock to keep climbing...

Mastercard (NYSE: MA) is one of the leading and oldest payment processing companies out there. Now, a decade ago, I would have likely called it a credit card company. My how the world has changed.

Granted, MA got started as Interbank in 1966 and landed on its current incarnation in 1979.

Remember, back then, if you were traveling, you couldn’t just whip out a card and buy things. Banks and their merchants needed to be interconnected so that your card could charge a dinner at a California restaurant even though your bank was in Kansas.

The credit card was a revolution at the time. Just as electronic payments are today. And now that national transaction has given way to international transactions that are all done without cards at all.

This history and brand recognition is what has propelled MA in this new financial services transformation. It’s up 35% in the past 12 months, but this new financial digital world has only just begun.

Buy This Stock As The Company Expands Its Reach

by Louis Navellier

If you’re worried about bitcoin or the blockchain overtaking MA, don’t.

Mastercard can process tens of thousands of transactions in seconds, whereas blockchain takes much longer because of its structure. It will be a valuable tool in payment processing platforms, but not on the transaction end.

This is the reason MA stock continues its success. In the past three years, MA stock is up 193%. Year to date, it’s up 50% and we’ve just reached the halfway mark.

Mastercard

This continues to be one of the top credit card plays in the world.

Mastercard Inc. (NYSE: MA) is a global payments provider that operates one of the largest payment processing networks, connecting billions of consumers, millions of merchants, and thousands of financial institutions in more than 210 countries. Its brands include Mastercard, Maestro and Cirrus.

The company also provides value-enhancing offerings such as loyalty and rewards programs, information services and consulting.

According to Nilson estimates, Mastercard is the third-largest global credit and debit network, as measured by volume.

Mastercard reported solid results, and the analysts said this in a recent report:

We see Mastercard’s solid performance as a positive, particularly given accelerating revenue and volume growth, in light of slightly softer peer reports – and we believe the stock should sustain its premium going forward.

We continue to believe the company’s strong medium-term guidance (which calls for high-teens EPS growth over the next three years) demonstrates management’s confidence in the secular drivers for the business.

The dividend yield is just 0.46%. The $320 Goldman Sachs price target is well above the $307.63 consensus price objective. The shares ended last week trading at $274.95.

MasterCard Inc. (MA)

Goldman Sachs’ James Schneider believes MasterCard is on track to see even more growth on top of the 48% year-to-date gain it has already achieved.

Despite the fact that its $284 billion market cap falls below Visa’s (V) $401 billion, Schneider argues that MA has a lot going for it.

With the company reporting on July 30 that gross dollar volume, the dollar value of transactions processed, gained 8% in its second quarter, MA appears to be well-positioned in terms of both its new and old electronic payment technologies.

The cashless payments company stands to benefit from the shift towards digitized money. In July, MA announced that it’s partnering with Evolve Bank & Trust to create a frictionless payment system where employers can pay gig workers with an interest-free loan for service in almost real-time.

Not to mention it also finalized its acquisition of Transfast that same month, giving MA the ability to disperse payments across bank accounts, mobile wallets and cards through a single API, and agreed to buy payments platform Nets for €2.85 billion on August 6 to add capacity for growth in the European market.

“We are driving growth in our core products with key wins around the globe, and our recent acquisitions, such as Transfast, and new partnerships, like P27 in the Nordics, will help us address our customers’ evolving payments needs, particularly in the areas of real-time account-to-account and cross-border payments,” CEO Ajay Banga stated.

All of these factors played into Schneider’s recommendation. As a result, the five-star analyst reiterated his Buy rating on September 3.

The rest of the Street is on the same page. With 15 Buy ratings vs 1 Hold received in the last three months, the consensus among analysts is that MA is a ‘Strong Buy’. Its $310 average price target suggests 11% upside potential.

Mastercard (MA)

Payment processing giant Mastercard has a huge market cap of $281 billion and has swiped its way into the public’s conscience via its ubiquitous presence in our everyday life.

Even so, it is not one to rest on its laurels, and has many income streams.

The company is developing its ACH (Automated Clearing House) infrastructure, winning new market share (it is in the process of adding Santander in the UK, BNP Paribas, and BMW portfolio, amongst others) and working with fintech disruptors such as Revolut, N26, and Monzo.

5-star Deutsche analyst Bryan Keane thinks the multinational firm has an “operating model that delivers,” noting, “MA is dedicated to expanding its card business while also layering on incremental network growth over the mid to long-term through new opportunities such as ACH/real-time payments, B2B, cross-border account-to-account and new applications like bill pay.”

The Bill Pay Exchange is set to launch in the US in 4Q19 and represents a big investment for Mastercard. The service will allow consumers to pay bills without having to remember multiple passwords, set up accounts with different billers, and log into multiple websites. Mastercard believes it can become a key player in the bill presentment and payer market.

Keane added, “Overall, we believe MA can continue to grow solid low-double-digits top-line (propelling into mid-teens growth) and deliver operating leverage even while investing in future network expansion initiatives, which should drive EPS growth above the high-teens, in our view.”

To this end, Keane reiterated a Buy rating on MA, with a price target of $320, which provides potential upside of 15% from its current price of $277.

All in all, over the last three months, MA stock has received a whopping 18 Buy ratings. As a result, the stock has a ‘Strong Buy’ analyst consensus rating.

These analysts believe (on average) that the financial services giant has big upside potential of over 13% from the current share price. This would take MA from $278.34 all the way to $316.13.

THIS ECONOMIC BELLWETHER PAINTS A BULLISH PICTURE

Today's chart shows a strong U.S. economy...

As regular readers know, we use various companies as real-world economic bellwethers. We're looking for signs that folks have money and feel comfortable spending it. When they do, this cash ripples through the entire economy – and when they don't, nearly everyone feels the pinch. Fortunately, today's company is painting a bullish picture...

Mastercard (MA) is one of America's largest payment-processing companies. It profits when folks buy stuff with their credit and debit cards, and it sees revenues slip if folks keep their plastic in their pocket.

And Mastercard was wildly profitable over the past year, with adjusted net income jumping 17% to $7.9 billion.

MA shares have surged more than 50% over the past year and just hit a new all-time high. This success tells us that Americans are spending money freely... and lots of companies will reap the benefits...
